Bad news

So, in anticipation of the imminent arrival of CS Junior (theres a thought) we got a set of nursery furniture, from a reputable supplier, (mammas and pappas), which came in 3 sets of boxes. The set is (meant to be) a rich walnut colour.

1st boxes (wardrobe) - I opened it and set about making the wardrobe to discover that several parts of the "walnut" coloured wardrobe supplied are, in fact, pure brilliant white in colour. And some of the other parts supplied are just "wrong" (wrong dimensions, wrong number of drilled holes etc).

So the wife gets on the phone to sort it out and next day I open the next boxes (changing table with drawers).

Firstly, I assemble a drawer - a complete breeze, even for a ham fisted oaf like me. Great I thought, as I set to work on the second and third drawers. Only to discover that countersuck holes on the 2nd and 3rd drawers have been drilled on the wrong sides of the panels, such that the screw heads would stand proud and so interfere with the sliding drawer mechanism. FFS.

Wife on the phone again.

I havent had the guts to open the last set of boxes, which is allegedly a cot. I can barely contain my excitement at what I may discover inside - a nice patio set perhaps? The Ark of the Covenant, even?

So, thats been a real pisser. The whole upstairs of the house is covered in carboard boxes and bits and pieces of semi-built nursery furniture, and I am increasingly mixed up as to what bit is what etc.

On the plus side......

Good news

A month or two ago, I noticed I was paying insurance on my credit card payments - a tiny amount, just buttons, but I didnt know about it (!?) and so phoned to cancel it. (I only have a childrens credit card, like £300 limit, so dont need insurance).

The bank starts refering to this call as "my complaint" and are clearly agitated about it. Lots of phone calls and texts from them, about "my complaint".

At one point, I almost said "Im not making a complaint, I just want to stop paying it" - but I thought, no, fuck it, I will let this run and see what comes of it - even though I wasnt really sure what was going on. (I didnt let on about this though, hoping to give the impression I was fully appraised of the situation).

So the whole thing took legs, to my amazement, and - after lots of drama - it has been decided that I was mis-sold insurance and, including interest etc, and am to get a sum of nearly 3 grand returned to me. Top of the Pops! :)

Not bad eh? And this, totally out of the blue!

I am not sure what I will spend it on, maybe some will go on a patio for the new house, (especially if my prediction about the 3rd set of nursery boxes is accurate); certainly, the wife didnt like my first suggestion of whores and cocaine!

Bad news about the furniture CS. We had similar issues with mothercare (I think Roberto had the same)

When are you guys due anyway?

Ach I know, we figured there has been so much to buy that something was bound to go awry. Turned out the effing pram centre gave us a wrong adaptor for the car seat as well, but its now sorted.

Due in 6 days :) (expect it will be a wee bit late, apparently thats normal for the 1st).

What about you, has your offspring arrived?

Everyones different. We were 9 days early with #1 so who knows. I would'nt go too far away if I were you.

Baby #2 is due in March. We'll be hitting up the January sales for the furniture this time around.

Aye the unknown part is the only bit I dislike, I would prefer if the time and date could be accurately predicted

Congrats man - and hope your furniture turns out better than ours!

If you (and any other father) could give a newbie one piece of advice about fatherhood, what would it be?

Don't introduce your kids to Catholicism.
