Wireless charging is another gimmick I don't get either.

It doesn't really offer anything new, it's simply a case of saving a bit of time and it will, over time, prevent any issues that is caused by inserting and taking out the cable (wear and tear).

 

Having wireless charging over a distance on the other hand (discounting all the health and interference issues that this may cause) would be pretty handy. You just walk into your house and if your phone is below 30%, for example, it will start charging.

 

But aye, it's not really a game changer at the moment. Having a battery that lasts 3+ days with proper, smartphone usage without having to turn off everything that makes it a smartphone, would be a game changer.

I would also accept a battery that only lasted 12 hours if it could also be charged in about 3 minutes.
