What Later Dons Players Would Get Into Our Winning Ecwc Team?

Something I amused myself with over the weekend:

 

If we take the team that won the ECWC as the starting point for the "best aberdeen side ever", which (if any) latter day players would get into that side?

 

Or, which players are roughly on a par with their 1983 counterpart, even if they wouldn't displace them from the side.

 

Would (say) Jess, Gillhaus or Snelders have got into that 1983 side?

 

Those were the names which jumped out at me anyway.

Suspect Kennedy would have played had he been fit. A better right back? Mckimmie possibly. Superkev worth a shout.

 

Robertson instead of Rougvie? Completely different players like.

 

McDougal (the slim version) or Gilhaus instead of Mcghee - Gilhaus maybe, but again different players.

 

Jess instead of Cooper - swirl instead of thud? Maybe although lets face it a ball player wasn't going to phase Real Madrid (remember the farce when Jess was going to play Torino off the park and Carbone tore him a new one) but a maniac who led into a tackle with his jaw was enough to unsettle them.

that does not need tweaking.

Hence the question mark in my initial post. My basic point still stands... there's almost no-one in that team who would be replaced by anyone who came after, Black very much included.

We had to include Anderson to allow us to line up a CH at full back. Anything else is illegal apparently.

Agree both good players, but not "best ever" material - likely elevated to that level due to the era they played in.
