fine-n-dandy
Under the guidance of DM and Tony and playing alongside our current crop of players - he'll return to form. He is a very good player and I'd be delighted to see him sign. I geniuely see this as an improvement on Logan - who has been hit and miss of late. Defensively better and can also get up and attack. This deal reminds me of Quinn - will turn out very well.Hope over ruling reality imo. Link to comment
CalgaryDon
Hope over ruling reality imo.During his time at Hearts he was very good. Utd have an awful team currently which has played it's part on the likes of McGowan and McKay. I was delighted when we went and signed Quinn despite the groans - same feeling about McGowan. Can't be that bad if he's an Australian international - although I have no idea who he is competing with. Link to comment

Same chat will go on in both threads. He wasn't that good at Hearts. He was young at Hearts & was viewed as one that had "potential" to be good, mostly because of his work rate & attitude (cos he had bite). They fell in love with him because he scored one of their 5 in the Scottish cup final v Hibs. Sevco were linked with him & wanted him & Templeton (for third div) so some automatically think he's a star. Shite at passing, shite going forward but average to good defensively mostly because of his attitude rather than his skills. Bang average player in my opinion that is very over rated by some mostly because of his previous when he was young as "one with potential" & the fact he is a Socceroos international. Link to comment

Tord31
He is ok and as some have said he is a better defender than Logan. He is not a better right back than Logan. On this one I'm probably likely to say beggers cant be choosers - deal him in. Link to comment

CalgaryDon
Give the lad a chance first. The whole scenario reminds me of the Quinn deal - fans complaining he wasn't good enough, signing from Ross Conty etc... Turned out a good signing. He is a vocal, physical type and for all we know may be signed as a centre back or even just as cover for Logan. The majority of utd fans are disappointed to see him go - their opinions of him that I've read are based over the course of the season. He's a good player playing in a guff utd side. Goodie to a certain extent also illustrates that playing with better players and coaching will improve form. In DM we trust. Link to comment

Just like Quinn IS. A squad player (hopefully) at best.Would like to think we are aiming for better for players viewed as regular first team starters. How the fk has DG improved? Serious question. Tord31
I certainly don't think we are in a position to confirm Quinn has been a good signing as of yet. Very much jury out so far imo. Link to comment

Very much jury out so far imo.Exactly. He has proven (so far at least) imo to be a squad/covering player. At best sounds harsh but it is pretty much true because I for one would not be happy if he was to be viewed as a regular first team starter from what I have witnessed so far. He's had some ok games, some good games & some bad games. He scored a winning goal v the tims which will always improve opinions on him. If we were the Aberdeen team under Brown etc. of the past Quinn "could" be viewed as a good signing, possibly even very good but we have moved on & Quinn is a squad player thankfully. Link to comment
CalgaryDon
No one can argue that Goodies form has improved under DM when compared to his last outing under Utd. If he could add goals to his game he wouldn't be with us. Our team has improved every year under DM - Quinn was an improvement on the likes of Shaungnessy, Anderson etc therefore in my eyes a good signing. Players have to be available and affordable - can't say its lazy. Link to comment

If anything, he has regrerssed even further. Link to comment

Certainly not if we are to be looking to continually improve on what we have. McGowan is very much a sideways (at very best) to backward step when comparing him to Logan & he does seem to be getting viewed as a replacement for Logan mostly for obvious reasons. Very meh signing & very much a lazy signing. Link to comment
fine-n-dandy
I will just add though that I would be very happy if McGowan was being looked at as a squad player as opposed to a direct replacement for Logan Link to comment

Dave Bus
McGowan would be a good addition to the squad, international experience and is a leader, also could replace Logan, I reckon we'd need another younger right back in at the same time as a long term project Link to comment

fine-n-dandy
To put it simply. Would you prefer Logan stayed, or we signed McGowan. The answer you give yourself there should tell you if you think McGowan is a good signing for the purpose or not. Would you prefer we signed better than Logan, similar, or worse. My opinion is that McGowan is worse than Logan. Certainly not better. Similar at best. Would prefer we were aiming the STRENGTHEN the first team. Lazy signing Link to comment
Reed or deed
I certainly don't think we are in a position to confirm Quinn has been a good signing as of yet. Very much jury out so far imo. He's got ten to two feet.I tend to think thats not a great indicator of great balance or silky skills in a footballer given some of the howkers ive played with. Yir niver sure though! Link to comment
