mutant
Havnt seen much of Gilks in the last 3 seasons to really comment . At 33 , McGregor isnt going to be attracting great interest from teams doing well which was more my point . We do need to be aiming for better players however even if mcgregor is a step too far to some of you . Link to comment
the sheep
Was it nae you who suggested we also look at Charlie Adam? It was me. Okay maybe too soon to approach Charlie Adam. The point I am trying to make is that we need to think big and try to sell what we are trying to achieve here. Not all players are motivated by money and lets face it most have more money than they will need. At some point they will accept that their time in the premier or other league is limited. Even the shit teams in the premier that are never going to win anything are spending big and the likes of Charlie will have a shelf life at that level. They will be replaced by some big money buy. A three year deal at the like of the Dons as apposed to the bench and eventually let go at the end of a season may be preferable. We just have to target the correct player at the time and sell the potential of what we are trying to achieve here. Barry Robson is the case in point, here 2 seasons earlier and we would have had some player and an asset to the team. If you can manage to bring talent here before its passed its best then it brings the best out of your young players and increases their value. It's not about spending beyond our means its about spending in the correct places. Link to comment
Redstar
Gilks would be a Kjaer level signing/standard...If we can do a deal we should. Link to comment

If you can see past that he played for that team that went under and that he injured Mislon with a horrendous challenge then he would be a good example of what should be achievable. Link to comment

Absolute Bob hope. Louis Moult looking half decent and he's young. Link to comment

Louis Moult looking half decent and he's young. If my couple of searches are to be believed he is on approx. £19,000 a week so he may just want to sit on the bench as he has a contract till 2019. However, not good enough for Everton so may not be an option. Put out on loan or given the dunt with money in his hipper. If he wants play football and win a league then where better than the Dandies? Link to comment
Tord31
Our success in recruitment has been focusing on the best players in the league (hayes, mclean, shinnie, flood, mcginn) and former best players in the league that have nipped (reynolds, rooney, robson). We should stick to this model. Link to comment

If not a newly promoted team next season. What have your searches got for that Neymar youth? Heard he's half decent, be good competition for Hayes anyway. Link to comment
the sheep
We are now at a level that it will be difficult to sign better than what we have got without spending money or thinking outside the box. The other option is to find a European player that wants to use us as a stepping stone to England. Link to comment
Tord31
Agree with that. The Shinnie, McLean, Armstrong, GMS and Ciftci signings are not so obvious this January. Ali Crawford would be one though. Link to comment

The other option is to find a European player that wants to use us as a stepping stone to England. No European player will see anyone in Scotland other than Celtic as a stepping stone to England, they'd sooner go to the English Championship. We're at the level where top of league one (guys like Rooney, Taylor and Logan), loans from Championship or EPL and the better Scottish players would come to us. Potentially the title race will prove a carrot to maybe get in better players but Naismith and McGregor would get 10x what we can offer them to sit on the bench in Engerland. Link to comment

CalgaryDon
If all our activity this January is extending Logan's contract - I'd be over the moon. Also would like Slater and O'Halloran on a pre Season contract. Link to comment
Guest milne_afc
Surprised no Falkirk players have been mentioned after yesterday's performance. The young loon Hara(?) looked kwal-i-tee, but Will Vaulks was ace, and has been every time I've seen him, which is more than I've seen of Craig Slater - whoever the hell he is. Link to comment

Why do you doubt that will happen? Ward won't get a start at Liverpool and is guaranteed a start with us. It's better for his development to keep him at Aberdeen instead of on the bench at Liverpool or at some 3rd rate English team like Huddersfield. Link to comment

buchanskii
Be good to get a McLean, Shinnie type signing - young, quality player proven in Scotland - but I can't think of many going about from the top of my head. That type of signing would be a better bet than a loan from down south as we've only had Hector and Ward who have cut the mustard up here, although they were both very good and almost make up for the McGlaughlins, Daniels, Monakanas etc. Link to comment
