Clydeside_Sheep
The Herald has today begun a count down of what it claims are the 40 best players in 40 years of the Scottish Premier League. It does numbers 40 - 31 today, and the rest tomorrow. Check it out: http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/14157775.Scotland_s_40_best_footballers_in_40_years_of_the_Premier_League__40_to_31/ Needless to say, players from the ugly sisters already feature prominently and I reckon there are some outrageous placings already! 40 - Billy Stark39 - John Hartson38 - Terry Butcher37 - Jackie MacNamara36 - Mark McGhee35 - Davie Weir34 - Eric Black33 - John Robertson32 - Jorg Albertz31 - Neil Lennon As the Herald group is essentially the publishing arm of the Orcs of Mordor, I shudder to think who might be in the top 30! Henry
EBT players should have a * next to their name IMO. Link to comment
Byrne Baby Byrne
What a disgrace if most of the players are from the 2 teams that have won the league about 36 times in the last 40 years. I will be so shocked by the revelation Link to comment
Poodler
Hartson was always good for a goal against us, he was a nightmare. Is Lennon a better header of the ball than Black? * 1. Larsson 2. A Hun Link to comment
boboisared
If McGhee is as far back as 36 then it doesn't bode well for Eoin Jess. Link to comment

Henry
Davie Cooper should be number one. Even if he didn't play in the premier league. Link to comment

King Street Loon
Wonder who they found to be a better LB than the turncoat David Robertson.Probably Anton Rogan. Link to comment
King Street Loon
Wonder where the likes of Thomas Stikroth, Gudmunder Torfarsson and Owen Archdeacon will end up on the list. Link to comment
Poodler
I wonder if Ravinelli will be in it? He was poor when he came, but great in his day. I predict 14 non OF players. Link to comment

RUL
Wasn't Robertson at the tail end of his career by then? He was a great goalscorer for Hearts. I don't look at any of the players listed above and think they shouldn't bei n a top 40, all have decent cases, McNamara clearly for Dunfermline/Celtic as opposed to his horrendous spell at ABerdeen. Saturday's Kid
You don't expect objectivity from the Herald. McGhee and Stark probably only got in on the strength of their Celtic "careers".This is the paper that ran a humorous piece on the best fat Scottish footballers some months back and concluded that the best were Jim Baxter and Bobby Murdoch. The ugly sisters even have to have the best fat bastards and the Herald always has to have one foot in each camp. ericblack4boss
I'm a bit confused by the era they are covering is it from t be inception of the Scottish premier division, by the sfl in season 1975/76,Or from when the shithouse cartel ( SPL) was set up in 98/99. If it's the former, then there will be many quality players left out, if it's the cartel era, then black, McGhee, and stark, do not qualify. Link to comment
Tord31
Davie Weir? A player that left at like age 23 and came back at about age 37? aye very good. Link to comment
ericblack4boss
Just read the article and its from 75/76,I have to agree that stark should've been capped, but he was unlucky enough to be playing in a decade when Scotland was blessed with countless top class midfielders. Link to comment
minijc
I hated McNamara when he 'played' for us. Useless prick. He done one good thing and that was deliver a wonderful ball for Lee Miller to finish off against St Mirren infront of the RDS. Link to comment
The Oxford Don
No. 1 will be Larsson. Certainly should be... Laudrup #2 I would imagine. Can't really argue with them as top 2. If McLeish and Miller aren't in the top ten then a deid rat will be winging its way to the Herald's offices. Link to comment
