caledonia
Anyone ever considered or would consider an electric car Audi gears up Brussels plant for production of first electric SUV Link to comment
E-P-K
The more popular they get, the more folk will get knocked down by them, ridiculously quiet. Started to be common for taxis in Norway, was in a Tesla last month, and very impressive apart from the seats which were a hidious colour. Link to comment
ab24_5qh
Lass at work has a Nissan Leaf and thinks its great. Personally I'll be sticking with the 3 litre v6 for now. Link to comment

Ke1t
Doesn't matter to me if it's petrol, electric, or hamsters on wheels that are powering my motor, so long as it gets me where I'm going and does the job I expect of it. The environment is fucked beyond salvaging at this point, so anyone thinking they're 'saving the planet' by driving electric, well, that ship has sailed I'm afraid. Link to comment
dervish
Only electric concept I've ever thought had any merit was one where you switch the battery instead of recharging it. So you drive up the "refill point" in nowheres-ville and instead of sitting there for 12hrs you switch the battery. Charge points can GTF. Saw an electric bus in Inverness last weekend though. Anyways so glad that electric comes from magic land renewable and not coal power stations or worse those really polluting nuclear power stations which thankfully we are getting rid of. Batteries can be charged to a reasonable degree in 30minutes. Nuclear power is the answer once we develope fusion. Both these issues are far from perfect but I presume in 20 years they will be solved. As for right now. I wouldn't buy an electric car until a full loaded car has a range of 200 miles, or charging times are improved. Link to comment
Chewie37
The range of the more affordable electric cars makes them a bit useless for me, okay for around town. My mate has an electric Golf and it reaches 112 miles so he can't get from Edinburgh to Aberdeen unless he stops for a charge, bit pish Link to comment
BrianFaePerth
Roughly 25% of the cars in Bergen, including my own, are electric. Got fuck all to do with the environment, it's all about the reddies. The government gives huge incentives (no tax, no toll ring charges etc) so only an idiot would pass up the chance. You can even roar doon bus lanes past the queueing peasants, something that never fails to prove enjoyable. As for the cars themselves, they are nippy as fuck. If you are sat at lights next to a BMW or Lexus, you will beat it in a race. No that eh have tried as that would be childish Link to comment

Fuck that. What you want is a car that can charge it's own battery as it goes. This surely can't be that difficult...surely? Link to comment

When the main one is used up, it will switch over to one of the other two which is charged and the process starts again? ffs it's not rocket science. Link to comment

rumpus
That might work if you only have one seat in the car. One seat's all that's required. No self respecting homophobic male or respectable female would want be seen as a passenger in such a poof mobile. Link to comment

Surely you could stop for 30 minutes and have a meal or snack while the car charges. If your journey was only going to be an other hour longer, then you wouldn't have to stop for a full thirsty minutes. Link to comment

ab24_5qh
If you do want to go electric I would only do it for economic reasons, not environmental. 80% of the electricity you use in your "green" car comes from burning gas, oil, coal or from civil nuclear. Link to comment
