Clydeside_Sheep
Paul Kantner, of Jefferson Airplane fame, has died. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-35438191 I *heart* Jefferson Airplane, so this is pretty crummy news. Link to comment
Clydeside_Sheep
RIP Were you also a fan of Jefferson Starship? I dont actually think I heard anything from the Jefferson Starship iteration. It was the psychedelic flavour of Jefferson Airplane I liked so much; from the little I know of Jefferson Starship, they started more folksy/poppy and then returned to a pysch sound. I did like the (very different sounding) few 80s singles of the yet further iteration "Starship" - We built this City etc. "Surrealistic Pillow" (1967) from Jefferson Airplane is one of my favourite Albums. If any parent catches their child listening to Jefferson Airplane, its probably a safe bet they are a serious toker. Link to comment
Clydeside_Sheep
Quality 'nam music Yes indeed. The scene from Platoon where the guys are enjoying a smoke in a Bunker, listen to Jefferson Airplane, Smokey Robinson etc is legendary. I much prefered the Sgt Elias and the stoner troops, to Sgt Barnes and the redneck jakey toops. Link to comment
Bluto10
I was thinking more Forrest Gump, Clydeside min. Link to comment

fatjim
I prefer more edgy psychedelic music but it was sad news. Link to comment

I see the original Jefferson Airplane singer, Signe Anderson, copped it the same day as Kantner. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/signe-anderson-original-jefferson-airplane-singer-dead-at-74-20160131 I never knew much about her though, Im all about Grace Slick. My favourites are The 13th Floor Elevators. They were the first band to describe their music as psychedelic. They were from Austin Texas. Not so hippy dippy as the San Francisco sound. amancalledbuck
Have you pair of buffties got a copy of Psychedelia by Rob Chapman? It's a great read. An exhaustive look at mid 60s psych, on both sides of the Atlantic. Link to comment
Jigot
The 60's must have been a right blast, compaired to today's shit of nose to the grindstone, whilst listening to hip the fuck hop in the background. Link to comment
