Tommy
See there's another minutes applause planned at the Hamilton game.16th minute. Just a young lad too, from what I saw he even managed to go down to Tannadice a couple of weeks ago. Link to comment
RAZOR
We used to slag Celtic for this. It is going abit ott 1 1 Link to comment

King Street Loon
Just checked. It's a lad of 16 I think.Whilst it's unfortunate that he's passed away, and I'm sure his family are devastated. Why do we need to clap for another stranger. All joking aside, it's getting out of hand. 2 1 Link to comment
StandFree1982
We should have a minutes applause for Paul Daniels in the 77th Minute. 1 Link to comment
muttonhumper
Fa's died now? Fa give's a fuck. Certainly not me or 99.75% of the rest of the crowd. 3 Link to comment
Tord31
Lets keep this to ex players only (who will be before kick off as deemed by the club with the leagues permission). Link to comment
Poodler
Sigh. This weeks instalment. Link to comment
a don in oz
Again? Terrible a 16 year old dying of whatever it was or happened (delete as applicable). But terrible for family and friends. Fuck all to do with the rest of the crowd of the team. Please enough of this shit. It's beyond a joke and each time it happens for some random it diminishes any chance of it meaning something whenever it does mean something to the club or [/all/] the fans there. 3 Link to comment
strachanmcgheegoal
To be fair to AFC they can't stop it happening (I know fuck all about this particular one - I'm assuming its not AFC calling for the applause, nor publicising it). If I want to organise a minutes hand clap in the queue in Tescos there's piss all Tesco can do about it as long as I'm not badgering people to clap along, nor holding up the queue doing it. Equally the family members involved (tragic though I'm sure it is) cannot take the huff if nobody apart from, possibly including the few that knew him actually clap. For the absence of doubt I feel very sorry for the loon, whoever he was and for the family members he's left behind. Just guessing, is it the RTA from Newmachar a few days ago? BUT It would raise an interesting conundrum if section Y were to sing on 15 and a half minutes "If yer a minky hun-loving jambo clap yer hands." The point being they are just as entitled to sing that if they wish as a family/friends are to request us to applaud as indeed we are to decide whether we clap or not. Its all a matter of opinion (one where I obviously hope good taste will win) but crucially AFC just happen to be stuck in the middle of it. Link to comment
muttonhumper
Just boo loudly on 16 minutes and put this shite to bed for good. 1 3 Link to comment
Foster14
Sad situation but can only echo the sentiments of those that have posted already. I would question the motives of the people who start of these ideas. I gather from seeing it on the Evening Express that he died of cancer and had things put on by the club (not sure at whose expense, but irrelevant) before his untimely passing. Hopefully that was a highlight to him. What does a minutes applause achieve? The cynic in me has it down to people wanting to belong and to something that they think is a good act, without thinking beyond that, and in this culture, I do think there is a degree of self-congratulation by those who started off the idea, when it comes off. Effectively, selfish motives more than anything else. Link to comment
Poodler
Edit - above post clarified cause of death. Basically - this is what happens when women get involved with football. 1 Link to comment
BWG
Certainly an awful thing to happen, but these minutes applauses have become totally meaningless and just irritate people. Let those that knew him remember him in their own way and allow those of us with no connection to the lad to just watch some fitba without being told how to feel about someone they never knew. 1 Link to comment
Tommy
Getting 3 points is more important than getting worked up about this. 3 1 Link to comment
The Boofon
Getting 3 points is more important than getting worked up about this.Agreed. If there is a minutes applause then so be it. If you don't approve then don't clap. Simple as that. Hopefully nobody who sat near him at the games comes along spitting venom about the guy. 6 1 Link to comment

jassb
Clap if you want. I didn't last time. Or the time before, to the disgust of some bird sitting next to me. Won't next time. Even if I knew any of these people, no need for this at a ground full of people with no connection to the poor guy. Who started this bollocks in the first place? Link to comment
daytripping
I kinda agree with this one, young lad who loved the dons, has met with club officials in the past who knew he was ill, won't kill anyone to acknowledge his passing, I don't agree with them all but this guy was 16, had not even started his life journey, if it makes his family feel better that the whole crowd were thinking of him of him(even though they might just be doing it cause everyone else is) for just a blink of an eye then all good with me. A friend of mines child died when he was 7, he was a huge dons fan, Theo Snelders was his hero, Theo turned up at his funeral and it meant so much to the family, to Theo who wouldn't have known him it probably didn't mean that much but for me it showed that the club and city and the people living there are more than just separate entities, we come together at times, especially the sad one's. That can't be a bad thing. He also loved Gary Glitter but we won't go there. 4 2 Link to comment
