slippers
The whole North Atlantic league has been mentioned again this week after UEFA announcing that they are granting the top 4 leagues automatic entry to the Champions League. Theirs talk of 3 or even 4 Scottish teams involved in this. What's everyone's thoughts on this? Link to comment

strachanmcgheegoal
The over arching principle here would be to avoid a situation where the invitees whoever they are being able to keep a foot in both camps, normally disguised as the colts idea. Firstly it gives them/us an insurance policy if it goes tits up. That however doesn't affect the domestic game per se so not really an issue - in fact I would guess the clubs left behind would probably want that anyway. Bigger issue is if you leave a Colt team, however you dress it up/supposedly restrict it it will still carry the fanbase it always did and, most importantly, will attract the young players thinking they'll get a shot at the big team (playing the Atlantic league) at some point. To be blunt redistributing those fans and young players would, from the domestic games perspective, be the whole fucking point hence my opposition to the colts idea. If we were to be invited would I welcome the colts idea? Damn right. But it kills the domestic game stone dead. Of course you wouldn't be able to stop an informal alliance/ feeder club type thing anyway so I could understand, in fact fully expect, the Milnes of this world to be sucked along by it and fuck the rest. Or the Old Firm model to give it its proper name! Link to comment
Bluto10
I like the old firm.Despite their drawbacksThey're part of Scottish football, they belong in Scotland, and the most fun teams to play. I just wish those running the games could see the big pucture Link to comment

Bluto10
I'm Nae talking about that. I'm talking about the buzz. They have no place on Eng, it doesn't need them. Instead of them looking to seek rewards abroad they should look to see how they, along with everyone else, can improve the football here 2 Link to comment

boboisared
I think what Bluto is trying to say, is that Rangers and Celtic are a very important part of Scottish football, but that their benefit to the league should be maximised, not the leagues benefit to them. Scottish football should not cater to them. 1 Link to comment

Neither of those events will ever happen. The OF would stand to lose too much. Link to comment
Bluto10
Well they won't gain much in the cut throat EPL. They could challenge, in the way Newcastle could challenge, but are a long way behind the biggest Englisg sides. So either way you cut it they'll win less trophies. Your point about the clubs though is the problem.Spineless springs to mind. Link to comment
Panda
My views on an Atlantic league are the same as a European league. Replacing the domestic league? No. Running alongside the domestic league? Yes. Divisions of 8. Play each other twice, get promotion and relegation. It's time to breakaway from UEFA. Link to comment

If managed correctly, one of them could do reasonably well in the english set up. If managed like Newcastle they would obviously fail. They would have to kiss goodbye to the CL for a while thats for sure but I doubt they give a shit about that considering the reward for participating the EPL is far greater than any financial reward they'd get from the CL. robbojunior
I really hope they fuck off. Scottish football could only benefit from Celtic and The Wankers leaving. Link to comment

Bluto10
A more competitive SPL could be financial rewarding with regular CL participation. Who's been interested in it since it got REALLY bad around 1990? No cunt. No wonder there is no money in it. Celtic may end up winning one in every 3 titles instead of every one in every one.Certainly adds more value to the wins than they currently get. Ironically a competitive league benefits them as much as us. What if all non-of vlubs threatened to breakaway a la the pre-EPL days? Link to comment

spamspamspam
What if all non-of vlubs threatened to breakaway a la the pre-EPL days? Nothing would happen.Clubs like Killie and Motherwell are all too afraid of it actually happening to be in on that type of threat. Even our heed bean counter would buckle. The only way to improve Scottish top flight fitba would be to split all money bar gates in match day income evenly between all top flight clubs. Demand clubs are run at a profit/break even and put some sort of restriction on foreign players. It would take 10 years or so but by the end of it we'd have a competitive league with strong home grown players and clubs that push each other to the point that we'd be competitive in the group stages of European competitions. The more competitive the league is the more money it will attract. The more money it attracts the better our clubs and nation will do on the world stage. All has to start by getting rid of Regan and Doncaster and rebuilding from the top down. 2 Link to comment
