Lencarl
Concentrix, a multi-billion pound American business services company contracted by HM Revenue and Customs to investigate alleged benefit fraud, paid on a results basis when it cuts the tax credit bill, profiting from stopping payments to those most in need; notes that thousands of people on low incomes, have been unfairly hounded by Concentrix and accused of cheating the benefits system by being wrongly accused of having a partner living with them and contributing to household income, and have had their tax credits suddenly cut off without warning causing an immense amount of stress and hardship and pushing many families into poverty; further notes that to reverse the sanctions families are required to gather an extensive amount of paperwork which can be difficult and can take a long time to collect leading to extended periods of sanctions; and urges the Government to investigate the conduct of Concentrix before more people experience the appalling consequences of the brutal and disrespectful approach toward the legitimate needs of that company on behalf of the Government. How on earth can this happen in a so called democracy. This does not affect myself but people I know have had their Tax credits stopped without any letters from Concentrix. SNP MP's are on the case at present time but they are making people on low income the criminals without hesitation or any consideration on the outcome of there actions. This is so wrong in my opinion Link to comment

This is so wrong in my opinion Sadly a lot of people will see what their doing as a good thing - it will be painted as clamping down on scroungers, when in reality it's a private powerhouse ruthlessly exposing people on lower incomes so they can harvest more ££££. She is a single parent and need this money. She had to wait 30 minutes on hold to speak to them and they mentioned previous tenants as still living with her. They stated she must give them a years bank statements as well as other documents and was told her claim will be at the bottom of their pile of claims. This sort of shit makes my blood boil. Lencarl
I had a look online about this shower and could not believe what they are doing. Single mums are their favourite targets as they are the most vulnerable. They get paid by Government to get them off Tax Credits, so they stop their credits,THEN ask them to prove they are entitled to have them in the first place. Then the people are sent demand letter from HMRC asking for all the money back which they have received. This is before the appeal is even heard by Concentrix. Nobody should have to deal with this shit. Link to comment

BWG
I wonder how many Tory cunts sit on the board of this company or have a financial interest in it? You know... because conflicts of interest don't exist in the conservative party. This is Toryism at its worst. Ignore the billions in unpaid corporation tax and instead demonises the poor. Lencarl
Louise Boyle of HMRC says: "We carry out thousands of checks on tax credit claims every year to make sure people receive what they're entitled to. Since November 2014 we've been working with Concentrix, a private sector company, on carrying out these checks. "We know how important tax credits money is to you and that it can be worrying when we carry out these checks. We don't intend to worry you unnecessarily – what we're trying to do is to make sure you don't end up being overpaid tax credits, resulting in a debt which then has to be repaid later."Claims are selected for checks using information from HMRC and third parties, such as credit reference agencies, which indicates there may be a risk of the claim being incorrect. Where that's the case, we or Concentrix will ask for further information, be that about claiming as a single person, childcare costs or levels of income. "Contact us, using the details on the letter, if the information we've sent is incorrect, or send in the additional information we've requested. No action will be taken to change any tax credits award until we have heard back from you, providing it's within the timeframe stated in the letter – usually 30 days."We really value your help and co-operation as these checks are carried out, but above all please do not ignore our letters because that then runs the risk of your payments being interrupted."We are reviewing the inclusion of potential partners' names in letters as we understand this could be insensitive in some cases – we apologise for any distress this might have caused." This is HMRC at their very best. Pass the dirty work to a private company that they pay to stop poor peoples only income. Link to comment
Lencarl
A disabled woman has been informed that the council will spend between several days and two weeks observing everything she does – including using the toilet, showering, and getting in and out of bed – to check she is receiving the right level of care. The woman is a survivor of physical, mental, and emotional abuse.Speaking at the parliamentary launch of a report about the impact of the government’s cutting of the Independent Living Fund (ILF), the woman was in tears as she told the meeting:That really breaks me. I can’t bear the thought of having a team of people invade my privacy, come to my toilet, my bedroom. The ILF was designed to help those with high support needs to remain independent, and provided support to nearly 18,000 disabled people. But the government shifted the responsibility to local authorities in June 2015, with no ring-fencing of the funding. Ever since, cash-strapped councils have slashed expenditure.Prior to telling the woman she would be placed under observation, the council already wanted to cut 46 out of her 84 hours support, saying that she could rely on microwaved meals and incontinence pads. The woman, who with previous support was able to be part of her community, chair three disability groups, and speak about disability at Glastonbury, will now be left virtually housebound. She has written movingly about the impact of the cuts on her life:Their drastic cuts will leave me virtually housebound: with just enough care to get me up in the morning and be put to bed at night and have a quick meal at midday and one short toilet break a day, as well as just enough care to go out once a week and 25 minutes a day for help with dish washing, household cleaning, laundry, shopping, etc., and absolutely none for help with showering and other personal care or for food prep and cooking, or anything else. But the humiliation the council wants her to undergo in order to justify what they are spending is mind-blowing and abhorrent:The Panel’s suggestions it seems also included that once the new care hours commenced, that a team of people would attend and observe, over several days, maybe even a couple of weeks(!), my every action during the new care times they say I will have, and the actions of my personal assistants too, from my going to the toilet and having a shower, to eating and to getting in and out of my wheelchair and bed etc., so that they could check if the new level of care being prescribed was actually going to meet my needs. And I must accept this incredible, humiliating, dehumanising invasion of my privacy and home, this stripping away of every last vestige of my dignity. This was her reaction to the demands:I’m ashamed and afraid to admit I broke! I just broke! And I lost my composure, my dignity, my sanity, and my temper, with I and all of them being affronted, attacked and pushed beyond endurance simultaneously, by the council’s ‘person centred’ cuts and this man obliviously, calmly sitting there and telling me a team of people, strangers, including ‘support workers’, he tried to reassure me, would be coming into my space; violating the haven, sanctuary and privacy of my home, my toilet, my shower, my bedroom; observing me naked, defecating, urinating, wiping my bum; observing and reporting on my every move, word and action! Due to having been sexually, physically, mentally and emotionally abused as a child and as an adult, including being raped, in addition to my physical disabilities I not only suffer from depression and PTSD but I also have massive debilitating body, privacy and image issues, which have been heightened since becoming disabled and having to give up all claims to my privacy and dignity on every level: physically, financially, spatially, etc. These are not isolated cases:These cases of abuse and humiliation are not isolated. And as the report points out, there is a postcode lottery as to the care a person can and will receive from the council. The Canary‘s Steve Topple reported from the parliamentary launch, and the stories of what people have had to endure are horrific. One man, Nathan, who still receives ILA but has had his hours cut, described the impact:I still worry about disabled people as a whole, whether they live in England or Wales… I say I’ve been assured of care until 2020. But even the actual allowance I’ve received is not good enough for my care needs. I’ve got a progressive disability… When I first started using the ILF I had 86.5 hours a week and that used to be OK… But now [it’s been reduced] it’s embarrassing. When people leave me at 2 o’clock [for four hours] they have to undo my trousers so I can use my urinal. But if anyone comes and knocks at my door between 2-7pm, I don’t have any dignity as my jeans are undone. And I might spill my urinal on my jeans, and I have to sit like that until 7pm.For many, it will be impossible to read these stories without feeling physically sick. But this sickness must be translated into dignified rage and action. We should all be ashamed to live in a country where disabled people are subject to cruel and degrading procedures; where those in most need of support are being humiliated by a system that should be helping them to lead independent, productive lives. This has to change, and it’s down to all of us to be a part of that change. What fucking country are we living in that we treat disabled folk like this. Link to comment
Lencarl
BREAKING:HMRC's just announced it won't extend Concentrix's tax credit contract. Chief Executive Jon Thompson said: "We want to reassure customers who have had their tax credits stopped that we will prioritise their cases, and make sure that they are processed as quickly as possible.“While it’s right that we ensure that tax credits customers only receive the money to which they’re entitled, it is vital that those customers have a high level of service.“That’s why we have decided not to extend our contract with Concentrix and HMRC is redeploying 150 staff so that customers can get through to advisers and resolve any issues about their claim.” Labour MP Louise Haigh declared the decision a victory, adding she was "delighted campaigning has been successful and this disgraceful company stripped of its contract." Many who's credits wrongly stopped will be relieved. Justice done but to late for the innocent folk who were victims of this scandal. Link to comment
Lencarl
A Concentrix spokesperson said in a statement: “We have operated professionally at all times and within the guidance set by HMRC. The HMRC statement not to renew the contract attacks our professional credibility, and the commitment of our staff who have performed determinedly, despite the issues with HMRC policies and procedures.“In addition, throughout the contract, Concentrix has employed good hard-working people within the UK, at Concentrix expense, in order to staff phone lines and handle customer calls which were agreed by HMRC and were based on HMRC assumptions.“To be clear, we have answered significantly more calls than planned with HMRC. Throughout the contract we have not been incentivised to make wrong decisions for claimants and, in fact, would be penalised heavily for failure to adhere to HMRC policies and procedures. Through the term of the contract we are pleased to have saved the taxpayer nearly £300m in authentic confirmed tax fraud and error which otherwise would have cost the taxpayer money.” Good riddance, only interested in making a profit and no interest in the misery you caused people.
