Sell Hampden

Recommended Posts

Nobody's really happy with the way the semi announcement has gone. Use Ibrox and Celtic Park for big games and Easter Road and Tynecastle for smaller games. Could even add our new place for some smaller games. Sell Hampden and build roofed and floodlit pitches close to every town/city with a Prem team.

Why would Queens Park sell their stadium?

Great idea, they've not long spent millions redeveloping it and you want it sold because you're not happy with a league cup semi draw?

It's a shame that Queens Park is an amateur club as they must make a decent wedge from it.

Nae half! Surely there's an agreement that it has to be used for improvements to the stadium instead of the team because you wouldn't think Queens Park would have the cash to keep Hampden up to scratch.

I just looked it up and the renovation was paid for with National Lottery money. No idea where the cash actually goes.

An average attendance of 750 for Hampden is madness though.

Still able to pay their part time manager a wage of circa 40k (for super_al's benefit, that's 40,000, not 40 million)

Mental.

There must be some means of getting Queens out of the place so that it can be scrapped. Surely Lesser Hampden could be redeveloped into a tidy wee ground of appropriate size, if they're that desperate to retain a connection to the Mt Florida area.

I'd play internationals at Murrayfield, or build a new purpose-built national football stadium somewhere around Stirling (or between Stirling and Glasgow), with a proper capacity, say around 70,000. It's a nonsense that, in a country where football is the main sport, our national football stadium is significantly smaller than the national rugby stadium (by about 15,000!)

Scottish football grounds are on the whole a joke. Look at the state of some of our "Premier" clubs gaffs. Caley is basically a fucking field with a few stands thrown up around it. Shithole. Dens Park is held together with string and chewing gum and Pittodrie is little better. It's an embarrassment.

Just look at the state of some of our clubs.

Sub 1000 attendances. Fuckin monkey clubs

The logical thing would be to merge a lot of these smaller clubs, and have maybe just two professional divisions, with a proper pyramid structure and playoffs (like we have just introduced, in fairness) to connect the professional game to the junior game.

It would never happen though... football fans are utterly resistant to logic and you can just imagine the negotiations to try to merge Dunfermline, Raith, Cowdenbeath and East Fife into a kind of FC Uber-Fife... Christ I think I'd rather try my hand at solving the Arab-Israeli question.

The problem isn't hampden, its the fuckwits in charge who decided to play all the semis at hampden. It'll be ok for the Sevco vs Victims match but for the dons vs morton clash the venue isn't suitable. Tannadice or mcdiarmid park would be better options for our match. Hampden should only be used for finals anyway.

There are far too many teams and leagues in Scotland but that's another discussion.

Crowds aren't a problem. Well, general attendance in Scottish football isn't. If we had smaller grounds that looked a wee bitty better and didn't have the likes of Rugby Park and McDermaid being 2/3 empty on average then it would look a bitty better. Say having things like Livi's ground. Make large standing sections for games if you want to make it a payday and you're sorted. The majority of grounds are shitholes though. Could be done with a huge overhaul! Dens, Tannadice, Pittodrie, Victoria Park, Caley... All shiteholes. Rugby Park isn't too big but far too big.

Yes. I would like to see Aberdeen, Dundee and Dundee United merged. That way we could finally support a team who may have a chance of winning more than 2 league cup in 26 years. We might even win a Scottish Cup, like the Inverness clubs who merged 4 years after we last won it.

All for it
