Displays

Recommended Posts

I know a lot of you don't like the displays, but posting this here anyway.

The guy behind the displays - commonly known as Mezz on the forums - has decided that the cup final display will be his last one.

Some interesting stuff I thought in his post explaining why.

I spoke with a few folk involved in the display project and family and friends in the weeks leading up to the Final.

Sundays final will be my last involvement with displays and those I spoke to fully understand why .

The club held its AGM on Monday and a shareholder asked Milne ,Yule and Fraser about those behind the display and a vote of thanks was agreed, Im not sure what that means but Milne said they had been in touch with the organisers.

I can assure you now we haven't been thanked by any of them .

So he blatantly lied to a room full of shareholders .

They had an opportunity to put some money towards the display as well but we had a deadline to meet to place the order.

We had to go through the Operations department, they were meant to relay info to our chief exec to keep him up to speed as to where we were at with the funds , I received an email at 9 pm on a Saturday night from him asking where we were at despite telling Operations on a daily basis .

They dragged their heels so we had to look elsewhere, the DST lent us £2500 which we paid back .

Production time for 20,000 flags takes time .I asked our chief exec if he would still like to donate something like a bus for volunteers, I never got a reply but the DST did and the club said they couldn't do a bus as they would all be booked .

I called Central coaches , same firm the club use and got a bus straight away , the DST offered to pay half of that which was a lovely gesture .

The club are impossible to deal with , they hate me that's for sure because I stand up to them and won't allow them to treat those giving up their spare time like dirt .

How can I work with a club that contacts Ian Low at Dundee United , or the operations Manager at Inverness Caley and try and talk them into banning us from doing display at their grounds?

When we did a foil display in the Shed at Tannadice I was taken aside and told they (Dufc) would do anything they possibly could to make sure our display was a success, which it was .

Dufc and ICT both couldn't understand why any club wouldn't want their own fans to add as much colour to the games .

The League Cup final at ParkRed for example the club did absolutely nothing to assist us.I had to deal with the SPFL, Celtic, and the police and all were very helpful .

The club were quick to sell framed pictures at £70 a pop in the club shop of the display , I was never offered one .

This display was a huge task and thankfully I had a great team to share the load , some of them will continue Im sure but after witnessing how I'm treated they will probably do future displays away from home .

At Hampden, Motherwell, Celtic,Inverness,Ibrox,Tannadice I have always been made welcome and always get a glowing report of how organised we were .Its just our club that make life extremely difficult to do anything and I've had enough .

We also have a SLO at our club , a role given to someone in the community trust just to appease UEFA , a SLO should be someone that is known to the support and is helpful to the supporters , ours didn't even get in touch leading up to the final , Im not even going to mention his name but another ex cop who nobody within the support knows .Im in regular contact with SLOs at other clubs as well as Supporters direct etc and kept up to date with matters.

It was very humbling for the support to put so much faith in me at the last 2 finals and to donate such an incredible amount was just staggering , I had several sleepless nights leading up to this game but I knew as soon as I knew the materials we would use what I was going to do .

Without the supporters kindness and participation I'd never have been able to do any of them .

Thanks also to those that helped me make it happen , you know who you are ?

Thank you all once again and good luck to those who want to try and add some colour in the future .

Time to spend some time with those that are far more important than football, my amazing family .

Cheers

Mezz

The club used to hold regular meetings with Supporters Clubs and they used to keep in regular contact with us.

Not only Mezz is feeling let down by their lack of involvement with Supporters.

Will they do anything different? Nope!!!

What sort of engagement do the supporters clubs want?

What a self entitled cunt.

There's kids starving in Africa and he wants 12k of your money for a vanity project.

Club have bent over backwatds as far as I can see and to be quite frank they've more important business to be getting on with.

bla bla bla.

He's said the same before has he not?

Plenty of times. It's like déjà vu all over again.

I'm sure there must be a reason why the club don't want to work with this individual and it's been going on for years. Not sure exactly why though. I got bored of it a few years ago and stopped paying attention to the squabbles and toys out the pram from both sides.

Does anyone know what the background to the club refusing to work with Mezz is?

I'd say it's down to his ultra days and the fact the guy seems a bit simple.

Do people genuinely expect anything out of the club bar winning games?

What do you feel this distance stems from?

They don't give a shit about supporters or supporters clubs I guess.

The bi monthly meetings we had under GWT were a start. A collective voice is surely better than one.

Always thought one of the main things about these displays is that they're fan funded. Used to be anyway, the thought of a club paid display was mocked (when other clubs did it)

I agree with you on that point, that it's the fans who have decided to put on a display and the club shouldn't be pressured into helping fund it.

However, they can at least be more accommodating when fans are working off their own backs to do something. Whether you like them or not, supporters travelling down to Glasgow and back on the Saturday to set up a display is a fair effort, and as mentioned in the OP the club are happy to make money out of framed photos of the display. What else was happening - the evening express handing out thunder claps? There were dads walking home with three or four of the flags after the game for their kids - saved them paying £5 a pop to buy a flag.

If the stuff about Dundee United and Caley is true then that's really poor.

the cup final at parkred and one a hampden last week must have been inspiring for the team and if club were selling portraits must have been popular as well

nae doubt the negative cunts on here will say its shite but some how managed to record it all on their phones

Definitely. When it was red ultras we funded everything ourselves. I don't know about displays since ru disbanded but seems to be donations from whoever are welcome.

The club don't like Mezzanine. If you look at his rant on this and previous occasions it's obvious why. He says to much about private meetings, as others have said he's posted similar before so the club consider him toxic but then they appreciate the displays and attempts at improving at atmosphere so a situation develops where he organises some stuff until they all fall out again.

There are many reasons for why and Steve knows fine why.

It has to be said some clubs would love to have someone like mez trying to drive atmosphere but Aberdeen fc and fans never took to ultras... It's not an ultra mentality city. I used to spend a bit of time talking to a boy who attended verona games. He said it would never work in Aberdeen and he was right... Steve should have accepted that sooner.

The club tolerating him hadn't helped when something great was done they'd then put obstacles in way but truth is Aberdeen fc don't want a green brigade or its like. It's not part of the clubs agenda and therefore when shit happens they turned their back on folk... Like sigma away club posted pics asking folk to identify flare holders even though they'd given passes to same folk for years.

I think razor highlights a separate issue in his post, the club are trying to get rid of supporters clubs in general imo.

Met the guy Mezz a couple of times, always thought he came across as an arrogant tadger. The way he was speaking to fans, telling them to get their flags up was out of order.

The ultras always acted like they were better than "normal" fans, and as such, most never took to them.

That statement on facebook comes across as a load of self-indulgent pish. Fuck him.

The club is full of old, out of touch cunts who don't pay money to attend games. Business types, hosting their ilk with a reception followed by watching the game in peace.

They don't want rowdy fans, aggressive chanting, anything interrupting the day. Let alone organised fans with any sort of power or pyro going off and groups of youths.

Pittodrie is just a big corporate sell out.

The new stadium will be as well. The standing section will be a token effort despite every man and his dog seemingly wanting in it. They don't want 5000 fans at one end doing anything other than watching the game with the odd bit of family friendly atmosphere.

The crowd peaked when we were waving those shitty foil flags about, after that downhill, we're Aberdeen, we don't need novelties and who's da is bigger competitions, back to basics imo. As someone said, kids starving and some in our support want to spend thousands on a vanity project that lasts a few minutes,, raise the money and give it to an Aberdeen kids charity for christmas, many won't wake up to a present.

The crowd who were at Tynecastle for the semi last time we won it should have been first to get tickets, real supporters who raised the roof without any childish cack, singing was non stop and atmosphere amazing, hampden was crap in comparison. Fuck Mezz and the displays and the ultras, we don't need them.

Nonsense the Club won't be held to ransom by any supporter and quite right too.

The Club should be very pissed off at the guys reaction to this.

Magic atmosphere and day out

Even though my watch got nicked while I was sleeping in a phonebox afterwards

What a carry on.

Met Milne afc that day, thoroughly nice guy, also got to see a pic of you and him letting off a fire extinguisher in a bar the next day, good weekend.

I had three fights that day, two with Aberdeen fans, not a mark on me next day, top day out.

He always ends up coming across like a kid thats been told no in these rants.

No idea whats happened this time but it smacks of someone that expects some sort of special treatment because they've done something and when they dont get exactly what they think they are entitled to they throw a tantrum.

"We asked the club to put us on a free bus for us because we are putting on a display, they said no" = Rattle thrown.

These displays are a 'who can piss higher' competition between the fans. Proven that they have no affect on the player whatsoever.

If I'm being honest I'd fancy my chances of doing better displays than him. Would I ever do it though? Would I fuck.

Edit:

What I would say though is that the club are happy enough to sell pictures of the display at the 2014 League Cup Final but never actually helped out with it at all. Apart from that, fuck him.

Anyone buying a picture of a fan display needs taken out the back and shot, body left in the gutter, eos.
