Bluto10
At least some meaningless 3rd group matches will be scrapped. But seems not much return for the traveling fan if your punted out after two games Link to comment
Bluto10
Shambles.Hasnt there been some big football names endorsing the idea? Maybe we are missing something? Link to comment
buchanskii
Like the euros, this will mean more teams who are out of their depth defending for their lives and making for a dull tournament... horrible idea Link to comment
Dynamo
The world cup had enough poor teams qualifying as it was, can see the early stages of this one being a complete non event. Link to comment

Foster14
Yay, 16 extra matches in international tournaments that are becoming more and more boring by the year. Will be great to have groups that you can get out of with one point (assuming one dominant team in the group). Must be quite a risk that in a 3 team group that you end up with a team on 6 points, and two teams on 1 point, who could have matching stats for goals scored and against. Wonder how that one will be worked out? Penalty shootout (though the teams may have played each other first)? Coin toss? Money>any other factors. Link to comment
vanderark14
This is all about tapping into the Asian market and increasing income, nothing to do with the football. 1 Link to comment
vanderark14
http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/38565246 When you think about it it, Scotland's effort to qualify in 1974 and 1978 was pretty special.http://www.afc-chat.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=40635&do=findComment&comment=1373887 Link to comment
Old Wing Stand
Expanding quantity at the expense of quality just a lot more games involving poor teams Link to comment
zander
Scotland still won't qualify. Link to comment
minijc
The SFA are happy with it and see it as a positive step, lol. Link to comment
Dal Riata Don
An idea to make it interesting: All 48 teams are seeded and the lower the seeding, the less strict the drug testing is. 1 Link to comment
The Oxford Don
An idea to make it interesting: All 48 teams are seeded and the lower the seeding, the less strict the drug testing is. Or, two World Cups: one organised along the same principles as currently, and one where the players can take whatever the hell substances they want. I reckon my 'narco-World Cup' would finish off the bog-standard one in less than a decade. Link to comment
Chewie37
UEFA and now FIFA desperate to help Scotland back to a major finals..........and we'll still screw it up Link to comment
Reed or deed
This is not fair , in fact it's discriminatory. They should expand it to 280 teams in order to give nations like Scotland a chance. Link to comment
BWG
Great now we'll look even worse when we don't qualify. Link to comment

tiktak
Gonna be some stupid scores. North America getting 6 and a half places is nonsense. No problem with South America getting extra, well deserved. Link to comment
Merkie84
Well done FIFA, bad enough giving the World Cup to Quatar, but now you have ruined the World Cup completely with this dire format. Oh well, football used to be worth watching, might have come up with a new hobby. Shambles. Link to comment
OddJob
As been said, this will be an absolute shambles if it happens Link to comment
