Guest
I've never hidden my contempt for the mess Milne has made for much of his stewardship of AFC, single handedly responsible in many ways, for allowing us to build up so much debt. I accept a degree of bad luck/poor choices in appointing managers may not have all been his ultimate decision, but at the end of the day, the buck always stops with him. However, what I think is fair to state, and he deserves our credit for, is that he's now managed not on just one occasion, but twice, to retain McInnes. Just how history will write the future of his tenure with us, for however long that may be, remains to be seen. But I think we're all pretty much agreed, that we're better off with McInnes than without. So, with a somewhat humble tinge to it, I say, well done Wiggy. You actually played a blinder here. Now, get on and get that friggin stadium built ya useless plug Link to comment

sooth_stander
I did. Whilst he was his ususal mumbling self, made a lot of great points and didn't miss when aiming his guns at Sevco. Apart from when he said we need a strong Sevco! 1 1 Link to comment

Regardless of what he said, it's very clear he and McInnes have a very good working and personal relationship and this in part, has led to McInnes being our longest manager for some time. Did you feel he came across or said anything that doesn't deserve our backing in his interview? Link to comment
old sheep
Heard his radio interview today. He's not the most fluent speaker that's for sure. Underneath all that though, I think he is just your normal teuchter, honest (as he can be in his position ) , straightforward, uncomplicated. Personally I'd have that any day over some superficial, smooth talking wide boy. 2 Link to comment

Eh? To my recollection every club in the country were running up stupid debts during the same period, paying wages none of them could afford. Milne was then the first chairman to say no more and put a stop to the nonsense while at the same time getting slaughtered by fans for not continuing to spend on new signings. 3 2 Link to comment

Milne was then the first chairman to say no more and put a stop to the nonsense .. Afc debt was 1st (indirectly)caused by Milne - the building of the Donald stand monstrosity, which was reason he later became chairman. he then increased that relatively small debt up to over 12 Million , which would likely have been 20M or over now, if he hadn't been bailed out. Aside from that he has made decisions not in keeping with most fan's view on the game i.e. pro celtic & newco. 2 1 Link to comment
the sheep
I think Milne can be happy with how he has conducted himself through this sorry affair and it appears that he has a great working relationship with Derek. This not only help keep Derek but will also help when we inevitably need a new manager some time in the future. However, he has to stop talking down the size of Aberdeen Football Club and talking up the size of Sevco, Celtic and other clubs. We have a history of competing with Celtic, the dead Rangers and in Europe. The only thing that limits us as a club is the fan base, the facilities and the money available for transfers and all of this is under his control. We should also be looking to stick a knife in to the beast Sevco and the press that tried to manipulate a move for our manager. If I was Aberdeen I would be wheeling out our x players for interviews saying that we are a well run club and we have what the new Sevco will never a have blah blah. Sevco are our main competitors and we need to be taking advantage of the mess that they are in. What Scottish football needs is a team out with Celtic and Sevco to be strong and compete for the league. You can make that happen. 1 Link to comment

BWG
"We've always had a good relationship with Rangers". And with that statement he shows how completely out of fucking touch he actually is. Milne is a fraud. He's got lucky with McInnes to begin with and he's got lucky again twice. I have almost no doubt that had McInnes left, he'd have appointed Yogi Hughes or some other dumb fuck. The Lighthouse
Aye.. not too sure we should get all sentimental about wiggy. He has been a disaster in the main over his long stewardship of AFC. Huge debt under his watch. Bizarre attempts to find a new site for the stadium over many years. Still no sign of a 21st century training facility for the playing squad - more important than the stadium in my opinion. Until McInnes, some very poor appointments. He was lucky in this instance - if McInnes had wanted to go to sevco he would have gone regardless of any input by Milne. Link to comment
Brochman
A lot of the people rubbishing Milne couldn't run a whelk stall. Apart from the stadium fiasco, the club is in a better position than all the others, bar Celtic. In part DM stayed on because he valued his relationship with SM. Aberdeen is now a serious club, in the middle of a period of stability, capable of attracting good players (relative to the rest of Scotland) and would attract interest from tried and tested managers should DM move on. But there is no pleasing, your average, small minded, greetin-faced Aiberdonian. 2 3 Link to comment
shooftahmooftah
Milne take note we need a strong Aberdeen , I don't give a shit of sevco go down to the highland league or up to it. What you and cormack and the other millionaire directors need to do is give Mcinnes , (now he and you are still best buddies that is ) is to give him a 5 million plus to get moult plus a decent midfield and centre back and winger signed up in January and kick sevco your friendly neighbour back down the fkng table. And I'm not an average greeting faced aberdonian I like others spend a lot of money on tickets home and away plus all the other expense fuel meals hotels etc so the above comment of greeting faced aberdonians can go fk himself. dj_bollocks
Hmmm this all feels like a familiar conversation... I wonder if me and F'n'D will be wished a plane crash death in this thread...? His part of the interview was a bit awkward and dull but then that's the Wig Wam Bam in a nutshell. I give DMc more credit for realising what a shit show the Zombie job is more than Milne's inspiring chat, but there you go... For the most part I think in most people's heart of hearts it's more the fact that we didn't get done over 3 times in a week by the Sevco, rather than losing our manager that was important. And Milne's talking up of them is to our embarrassment too... If Aberdeen were beating Celtic, doing well in Europe and flying the flag for Scotland, why would we need a strong Huns ? Idiocy. The sooner we pull up the draw bridge of fortress Pittodrie and not even discuss the Weegie teams in the press, the better. Who honestly gives a fuck what mess they're in ? We've had 5 years of comedy... Time for us to get serious... We’ve seen them coming, they were safely down in lower divisions and now they’re back. We were looking over our shoulder, and now they’re neck and neck. There should be no capitulation to this new team. There will always be an expectancy to beat them, regularly, both home and away. This is what should be ingrained into our players the moment that they arrive at our club, whether as a youth or as a first team player. There will be no respectful admiration. You will be expected to train harder, stand taller, fight for every ball and win every tackle and win the game at all costs. And when offered up for press quotes you will not reference them and you will not acknowledge them. We will make Pittodrie a fortress a cauldron of intimidation for any and all who enter. We will back the team with deafening passion and silence all opposition (and sweetie wrappers) This is our club, this is our team. This is what it means to be Aberdeen, and this is still our time. 2 Link to comment
Guest
Questions for the total prick who is Stewrat Milne. 1. Is it true that in 1976/77 you hit a 13/14 year old kid in the face with a closed fist? He was riding a BMX bike on a building site. His (slightly) older mate regrets to this day not battering fuck out of you right then. The assaultee laughing at you, mostly in incredulity probably saved your short-ass arse at the time. 2. Is it true that you never attended Pittodrie in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s? 3. Is it true that you only turned up at Pittodrie in the 90’s, coincidentally when you got a local contract? 4. Is it true that you used to wear wigs? 5. Is it true that in the late 1980’s, wearing one of said wigs, you hit on a bunch of elderly ladies at a function, spectacularly unsuccessfully, one of whom I’ve known for a very long time? They thought you were pathetic by the way. 6. Is it true that you lied to AFC fans at The Capitol in the mid 1990’s? The evidence since kinda proves it. 7. Is it true that under your stew-rat ship, AFC have endured the worst managers in its history? 8. Is it true that your use of the word fucking when you deployed it before penalties was an attempt to ingratiate yourself with the fans? 9. Is it true that local civil servants have been invited by you to travel abroad to be entertained on your yacht(s)? Or was the guy in Ellon who was pissed and boasting about your hospitality just a one-off? 10. Is it true that you proposed a brand new stadium for AFC before the paint was barely dry on the RDS? That’s only 10 questions. I’m sure a decent investigator has hundreds. I’ve got a few dozen more myself but Richard Gordon asked fuck all of substance. Shocking act of weakness and sycophancy by him today. 4 8 Link to comment

Shocking act of weakness and sycophancy by him today.Who gives a shit what happened 50 years ago... ffs people change and grow... and learn from mistakes I just see a professional setup where the manager, rather than being a revolving door / scapegoat,is viewed as part of a senior management team that are attempting (with many obstacles) to build and grow the club. Milne (and others) deserve credit for bringing that culture to the club but you also need the right manager - not one of the usual suspects or one of the good lads that infest the game - but someone that understands the positives of that approach. I think thats played a massive part in derek staying. Every other job out there seems to be clubs after a short term fix rather than a long term solution. That approach is viewed as too disruptive in every other walk of life and most other sports. FFS weve just seen the impact of disruption twice recently! 1. Three / four senior players leave (depending how you view taylor) and we sign a handful of new players who need time to adjust 2. Uncertainly with the huns media campaign So Milne, regardless of growing pains or previous errors, deserves a huge slap on the back for how hes handled it In summary - STFU you melt 1 1 Link to comment
