dave_min
Anything from the USA is usually atrocious, tastless and fizzy and scarcely alcoholic. I found it impossibe to get drunk in the States and couldnt find a % ABV stated anywhere on beer bottles. Link to comment

However, I assume when you say 'USA', you are actually just referring to the fast food restaurants and Theme Parks you frequent during your summer holiday to Orlando? 1 Link to comment
BrianFaePerth
Had a couple pints of belhaven's stout recently - smashing They use to stock this in Norwegian shops for a while. Eh bought up nearly every bottle there was at £5 a go. Then for whatever reason, most likely racist, they stopped stocking them. The amount of time eh stood there looking all forlorn, quietly whimpering, that the only decent bottle of beer in the place was replaced by the likes of Hansa, Ringnes, and the amusingly named Ass beer shaped me as the bitter, twisted, yet irresistable to the ladies, man you see today. Quagmire
What's the Norgie beer called again - Tao or something? Used to give you a sore head as you drank it. Horrible stuff. Tiger beers another I can't stand. Asahi is a fine pint. Link to comment

Was lovely. Nicer taste and texture than Guinness (which I like) Bought a couple of bottles recently and thoroughly enjoyed it - though just not as much as the pints I'd had. Link to comment

This was a significantly better post than your usual snidey bleating. When I said "USA" I was referring to beers that I have tried from that nation, both in the place itself and here. I don't discount the fact they might make something decent which I have not yet tried, but so far I have been unimpressed by their offerings, (as have several other posters you may note.) I think it is more that about 6 or 7 US beers have been named and there are about 2,800 breweries in the country. Personally, my experience of the USA is around 20 different beers on tap in most pubs/bars and it is not difficult to avoid the Buds, Millers and Coors of the world. Link to comment

The beer situation in America is incredible. Some real beauties to be had. Sierra Nevada quite possibly the best. The horrid ones you have listed are just to keep the rednecks happy. Link to comment

It'd probably be Stone or Left Hand out of the more regular ones you see, but so many micro breweries there with great beers. Link to comment
ILikeJam
Was recently in the Hanging Bat on Lothian Road in Edinburgh. They had a weissbeer on the board called Calypso and I was looking for something fresh and light. It was possibly the worst thing I've ever tasted - including food, bodily fluids and sweaty post-Amadeus sphincters. It was so sour that I couldn't even manage to take a full sip. If they had been trying to sell it as some sort of 'dare' drink then I might have understood. As it was the only explanation I could come up with was that they had fucked up the batch and just tried to sell it anyway. 1 Link to comment

Even in Tesco/Asda here you can find a few damn fine American beers. Blue Moon, Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada, Founders All Day IPA, Goose Island IPA/Hinkers Red, Brooklyn Lager are all decent mainstream beers that can be had from UK Supermarkets. Link to comment

Redforever86
Some decent ones come out of Hawaii. Maui Brewing Co. Coconut Porter shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit one of the best beers ever. Millions of ace American breweries, Sierra Nevada is decent but now owned by a big corporate entity so will avoid if possible. Link to comment

Completely different taste to a wheat beer. I can understand if you never liked it although I love sour beers. If you are ever in the Hanging bat etc ask for a wee taste before you commit to a purchase they will understand and also steer you in the right direction depending on what you like. Sound lads. I'd like to take credit as the first person to bring Founders All day IPA (and others) to Aberdeen. Probably the greatest achievement in my life, and not to be surpassed. Box of cans o them for a train/car journey to the fitba on a hot day. Magic. I'm getting emotional. 1 Link to comment
