I said earlier on this thread, if they want to be treated equally then they should have been slaughtered after the 6-0 defeat last year.

They did get slaughtered for their showing in the tournament to be fair. But the manager and a few players who had been picked simply for nostalgia were already quitting anyway, so was no point in demanding change when it was already coming.

 

And the media criticism was reserved to a few side columns in the papers because that was the level of coverage they were getting rather than back page headlines.

The acid test would be whether people would pay to watch it.  I, however, have no issue with it being on as a space filler and indeed if the standard goes up, then all good.

 

To move off on a tangent and then double back for a parallel, there was a while where I preferred watching women's tennis (relative to men's tennis, although in reality I am no huge fan of tennis in general), because they would actually run about and have rallies and play the game, as opposed to the mens game, which for a while was just blokes standing on the base line launching cannonballs at each other.  It seems to have improved.

 

So I suppose what I am saying is that women's sport can be entertaining enough, but the current standard of football is low.

 

 

Pretty much agree with all of that. Football could go the same way as the tennis did for a while with women's games having more skill rather than the physical side of it for obvious reasons, just isn't like that yet.

 

 

A demand for it? Really? It’s utterly shit. I’ve tried watching a few games and the standard is abysmal. The goalkeepers are like something out of some slapstick comedy programme.

Demand for it as in folk wanting to play and show an interest in it and the games being used to promote girls to be able to play sports that they like rather than being forced into netball or lacrosse or knitting. Some of the men's games are absolute shite too, or are you conveniently forgetting that?

 

  

Mate. 5,000 watching Wales v England in a world cup qualifying match. I'm sure when I was wee I can remember about 60 of us watching 2 dogs fuck. It's only just up from that.
