fine-n-dandy
Clearly a hot topic at moment. When are we going to finally find one we can really be proud of?Rooney was great as far as most of us were concerned. Even when off form (or not playing the silky stuff we would love to see from a striker) he still popped up with the goals & was our first 20+ goals striker a season for decades. His last season was pretty poor by his standard but even with limited game time he still banged in a good few.Big loss & not been replaced clearly. McInnes moved on Vernon (& others) for either going backwards, or just never being good enough. He persisted with Maynard (too long) to try & 'stubbornly' prove he was a bad signing. He seems to be doing similar with May, Cosgrove & arguably Wilson also but he is maybe being forced to play Wilson for most part. Guess we'll never know the deal there. I still hope May will come good, or even average but he's taking forever & is being given every opportunity, as was Cosgrove & it often seems they have been given a fairer crack of the whip than Young Anderson has. I really do not trust McInnes's judgement in terms of strikers. He was on a safe bet with a 100% proven (in this league) Rooney but credit to the fkr for getting him all the same. Say what you like about Shankland but there has to be a question on whether he was given enough of a chance for us when so many other have been give so much more game time. Not saying Shankland hasn't 'found his level' & McInnes wasn't indeed correct to let him go but will be interesting to see who he gets on after his next move, which is clearly going to happen soon, whilst his stock is high. End of the day. McInnes needs to get his next striker right because we need a decent one again to give us as many as Rooney did (for the most part) which was 1 goal to every 2 games average up until his final season but most of his final season. 2 1 Link to comment
dj_bollocks
I was and still am one of Shankland's biggest supporters and I agree that he was probably right to be binned. I guess the question for me is more can DMc manage strikers. I've always believed a decent striker will tell you where and how he wants the ball and that's for the midfield to deliver. Everyone knew that Rooney wanted the crosses into the 18 yard box and that's how he was most effective. Do our strikers effectively communicate what they want ? Does DMc know what he wants from a striker and does he have the team and tactics right to be able to provide delivery to said strikers. There's and argument to be said that even with Aguero we'd struggle to score because we couldn't deliver the supply for him to convert... Link to comment
fine-n-dandy
Just trying to keep the 'pish up front' topic to one place to save all threads being flooded with it Who will be the next signing to earn the title of STRIKER that Rooney left ? Link to comment

A real penalty box striker & he was fantastic at chasing down every shot at goal & banging in the rebounds. No great skills but he got us what we needed. Link to comment

Mouse
Vernon was great for us in poorer times until the GWT stuck him in midfield. A club like ours should have at least 1 20+ goals a year striker 1 Link to comment
fine-n-dandy
Out of interest. How are all the strikers (canny mind their names) we were 'rumoured' to be linked with in summer getting on this season? Was there not one we actually put a bid in for as well. Were they missed chances or lucky escapes? Genuinely haven't checked but keen to know if any cunt has kept an eye out. Link to comment
Proud Dandy
Letting a proven goal scorer go in Rooney was baffling given he was under contract and didn’t seem like one who would have thrown a tantrum if we had blocked his move. He would still easily be our top scorer this season, with the defence we’ve got now having a poacher in the squad would have made a big difference. 1 Link to comment

Doidge has left forest green for Bolton on loan and will join on full time terms in January for a seven figure sum. That was the lad that we apparently bid 300k for! Link to comment

Need to strike early as I’m sure championship teams will come sniffing soonWhen McInnes inevitably gets poached by a big English Premiership club after winning his second League Cup, I'm championing a Micky Mellon/James Norwood double swoop on Tranmere. Fridge
Already foresee the future when we have to endure some complete and utter horseshit up front and we have to tell the younger generations about Nicholas Maynard. It’s fortunate that the internet exists as evidence. Still can’t convince myself whether the lack of goals has taken 10’years off my life or was comedy gold. Link to comment
