ab24_5qh
Ryan Fraser left in 2013 having only played 21 games. Since then we have not had much talent coming through. McKenna's value must be plummeting with every game he plays. It seems that we no longer scout for young talent outside Aberdeenshire. We are probably no different to any other Scottish club but I am just not sure we are developing any talent that is capable of making the jump to first team football. Link to comment
Dynamo
Disagree. Theres plenty players who seem to have talent but not turning potential in to performances for the first team. Scott Wright looked great. Shankland didn't do it here, why not? McLennan, Anderson are the latest to shine in spells but one can't even get a game off the bench. Campbell is highly rated. In the past it wasn't an issue cos we had steady performers like Hayes, Mcginn et Al there wasn't a spot for them but now we need the youngsters maybe the coaching of them isn't all that? ab24_5qh
That's what I meant about making the jump to the first team. Yes there are very talented kids but none seen good enough to get regular first team football. Link to comment
Guest milne_afc
They're just not good enough. Link to comment

Dynamo
Aye McKenna, seb ross, Frank ross, campbell, mclennan, anderson, wright Yep, doesnt give any a chance, you're rightI'd forgotten all about Frank Ross! They get a chance but total scattergun. Look at Ethan Ross vs. Hibs. Totally out of nowhere and not seen since. Link to comment
Guest milne_afc
One of them should come out as bent. Would make for a good distraction from the football. Link to comment
aberdeen1970
The Ross stud farms are definitely trying to do their bit for the club. Link to comment
aberdeen1970
McKenna never happened by accident. Wasn't his fault the defenders in the team played shit giving the manager no choice but to drop them. He was given the chance and he took it well. He was never out of the team after that. Though the word is he was almost loaned out again that summer and hence wouldn't have been able to step up at the time if it had gone through. Link to comment
Ten Caat
Wright had plenty chances before his injury. Wasn't good enough consistently. Campbell has had plenty game time in the past 12 months too. Again not good enough on a consistent basis.....but has time on his side and is certainly a better bet than Gallagher or Vyner to be a success with us. McLennan has done ok but keeps injuring himself and that stops him playing week in week out. Tbh the Rosses I just don't think are of the necessary quality. So the only one who really has cause for complaint would be Anderson. Who is never going to get much game time with Cosgrove banging them in at the rate he is doing. But who certainly should be the one taking over for the last 15-30 minutes should Cosgrove be taken off for whatever reason. Link to comment
aberdeen1970
I think he needs to rethink his formation. We've been playing the same formation for years with gradually worse players every season lately. I think we're pretty easy to work out now and it's maybe time to put his 4-2-3-1 to bed. I'd suggest a 3-4-3 but the last time he played 3 at the back he made a cunt of it. Link to comment
minijc
That's just not true though is it?McKenna getting a game was forced upon him due to the awful signing of Arnason and how bad we looked at the back. Anderson certainly hasn't had a fair chance yet either. Link to comment

swifty
McKenna is fucking shite too though, so not sure what the point is here!!He has played plenty of young players and mckenna aside (for a short period only) none of them have shown they are good enough for what we wantWhich of our academy graduates is Gallagher better than? He has played plenty of young players and mckenna aside (for a short period only) none of them have shown they are good enough for what we wantThere's getting a chance and there's getting thrown in to dreadful situations, Mckenna has went backwards again McInnes plays a huge part in that by rushing him back from injury. Any younger player that gets a chance knows that even if they play out of their skin they will not get a steady run of starts as mcinnes has his favourites and always reverts to them. Link to comment

Red Ram
Thanks.So... Is he that good or ?He's a decent prospect and could see from youth games why he was getting talked about by DM etc but only turned 16 around end of July and in his first few months as a full time player . Think he's in squad for Scotland U17s playing Euro qualifiers just now but big jump from that level and U18/Reserves to first team but hopefully lad will make the step along with few others coming through. RUL
I think there’s a lot of talent but the transition to first team is tough. The u15s-u17s have a lot of very strong prospects. Link to comment
aberdeen1970
Fergie said that young players need at least 10-12 consecutive games before you can judge but I’m sure MT & 1970 know better? Think you've got the wrong spy. I'd like to see the young players get more chances. Absolutely. That's what a club like Aberdeen should be all about. Link to comment
