I find it wild how folk here can't conceive of other ways of doing things. How many countries in the the world have a single state run healthcare provider? Is it still just us and Cuba? Why? Because it's a terrible way to do things. The NHS will always be in crisis because there's no creative destruction, no competition.

There are roughly a million countries that have healthcare which is completely free at point of use, and use private suppliers. Where's the slippery slope? That dirty profit motive delivers good healthcare.

We think the NHS is the envy of the world, but I don't see anyone else looking to replicate it.

Citing Cuba as a negative when it has one of the most comprehensive health care systems in the world, and supplies Doctors and nurses to third world countries when in need 😂

Cuba operate at about a fraction of our GDP as well 😂

This is outdated, but the UK is pretty high up in general satisfaction here. Arguments about competition etc have been long made since before these statistics.

Also, your point about “use private suppliers” what the fuck do you think the NHS uses min? Do you not remember the mask fiasco over COVID. The NHS long ago outsourced supplying of equipment, medicine etc.

If you’re suggesting we use private suppliers for physicians, which by the way, we already fucking do, then that’s of an enormous cost to the taxpayer as well!!!!

You’re talking as if the NHS in its current state of being is the same as 1948, it’s been reformed a good few times over, allowing private markets in.

And you know what’s great about that? Through all that reform, through all the Thatchers, Blairs, Cameron’s etc, it’s STILL free at the point of use for every UK citizen.

It’s remarkable.

Single payer is a very cost effective method of healthcare due to the govt bulk negotiating power for medicine.

The NHS already uses private hospitals, equipment and many healthcare professionals do both nhs and private work.

I know you didn’t specifically advocate the US model but it’s worth highlighting that approx 500k people per year declare bankruptcy due to medical bills.
in the UK that figure is nil.

You were only out with the number of countries by approximately 999,800. Call it a rounding error!

The panel of 14 doctors who looked at the case, have all come to the same agreement that none of the Bairns were murdered.

Go on Google and type in lucy letby case...You'll see BBC report from the top doc on the panel.

Sorry but that's incorrect. They are working on her defence.

"Convicted serial killer Lucy Letby is back in the news after a panel of medical experts working with her defence team said they believe the 35-year-old did not commit the murders."
