Aberdeen v Bohemians - UEFA Cup 1987/88

On another board I’m a member of a Boh’s poster posted this as part of an overall message:

“I saw a recording of our 0.0 home draw against Aberdeen in 1987, but it's probably been lost. I've never seen any footage of the away leg, although I was there. I'd love to know if the penalty that won the tie was as big a home town decision as I remember, and if Jackie Jameson's late chance was as close as I thought at the time.”

Aberdeen won the home tie 1-0, and won 1-0 on aggregate. I think I was at this game but I can’t remember anything about it. We scored early on from a penalty. Astonishing that we only won 1-0 given that Willie, McLeish, Leighton, McKimmie, Bett and Nicholas were all playing.

Was anyone else who is on here at the home tie. If yes, do you  anything memorable about the game? I hope your memory is better than mine! Thanks.

Didn’t they beat us under Skovdahl?

I actually do remember that game.

I got married to my first wife in the July and she agreed to come to her first match at Pittodrie that late September night.

Jim Bett scored a second minute penalty and I thought that would open the floodgates and show her how good the Dons could be.

Alas the rest of the game was very boring without meaningful further incidents. Unfortunately the main thing I can recall from the evening was her constant whining as to how cold she was. The honeymoon period was apparently over!!

You romantic devil! Taking the new wife to Pittodrie. I guess back in those days the chances are you would get to see a match, despite the cauld. I think you would be taking your life in your life in your hands, if as a newly-wed now, you were to suggest, “honey, let’s go down to Pittodrie to see the Dons. More than likely, divorce proceedings would be commenced the next day!

Perhaps.

However my second wife, of over 20 years, actually liked going to Pittodrie albeit the performances over the last few years has curtailed the enthusiasm.

So, in conclusion, any members of the hat considering a divorce should suggest a trip to see the current Dons.

That should seal the deal ?.
