No one got 14 quid for delivering the green final.

No I done it a few times as an extra on top of my usual EE round. £6/7 max I recall for the Saturday early evening. And I’m younger than fridge. EE weekly round paid around £17+ tips then.

Edit to add and I’m younger than fridge so he’s talking shite.

I usually made between £15-£20 every Saturday, sometimes more though. Whitestripes, full of proper working mannies.  Usually got a couple of extra for the mains too. About 60 papers all in if I remember right.

About £60 a week between my Evening Express and Green Final runs as a 13 year old.

I was 7 quid, 7 mornings, 6 nights, in all fucking weathers. Sunday morning was usually 2 bags, papers too heavy.

I feel fucking old reading you guys had it easy, I used to load the papers in the storeroom of the shop though,  I robbed it mercifully, boxes of chocolates, condensed milk for fishing trips, porn and car mags. Girls on the counter were the same age as me, 10 pack of fags on my way out. Seems like yesterday.

Loved wee Alikie.

Anyone on here old enough to remember the Green Final?

Brilliant for amateur sport for football athletics cricket and rugby .

But best of all was the reporting of the Aberdeen games .

Would be good to get another sporting paper that serves the North East.

You'd have to call it the old firm times to get sales these days.

Sadly the Green Final wasn't on sale in 70s/80s Glenrothes.

We had to make do with the Sports Pink, on sale in Glenwood chipper by 5.45, sometimes even by 5.30. Always astounded me they got it out so quickly, always made your fish supper taste even better if the Dons had pumped one of the OF an hour earlier.

Doing it for a shop is where you went wrong. We would collect from a wifie's house and collect the cash ourselves. Most of the earnings was tips. Golden nugget, keep the change for a 26p green final thanks very much

Used to get a fiver tip at xmas from a helicopter pilot who lived in a big house just across from the shop, had me dancing and clicking my heels for a week. 😂

I  didn't mind the job, gave me a good work ethic. Something the immigrants and blakes should take a lesson from, all white paper deliverers round my way.

Also delivered the Green Final as a loon.  Got no fucking recollection of how much I got paid though.

Did the morning papers Mon-Fri and Sunday for a bit.  Sure just doing the Sunday paid almost as much as the Mon-Fri.

Used to put a Xmas card through all the doors about a week before Xmas.  The Xmas cards received back with tips in were mucho lucrative.

Honestly a true story. I was once asked out of a class in school in academy and asked by 3 geeks if I was being abused by my parents, it all came from my hands being manky black from the papers, they thought i was dirty all over. I was delivering in the morning before I went to school. My mum went fucking ballistic on them after. 😁

Not at all Dayts.  And gotta learn the importance of hard work while you're young.

My wee one will be getting a job when she's old enough (which isn't too far away) to learn exactly the same.

My wee one is on a never ending university career, left school at 16 and worked for a year as a waitress in a hotel, wised up and went back to school. Think she'll do ok in life, has learned the lesson about menial work. Graduates in the summer. Police is an option to her which is a mild worry.

Get her away from that police idea, no good will come from it.

My wee one wants to be a vet, sure that's about 6 years at uni.

Her best pals mum works in the police, she told me every second Saturday she'd have to hold in her chuckle as the match day meeting was held, my pic along with others was on display of people to look out for. She knew I was a softie at heart, had no place in the line up. Good guy.

Doing a legal and business coarse. Weirdly the part she's enjoyed the most has been the health and safety side, tried tagging buff but couldn't find him. Anyone looking for a very smart intelligent girl to hire in the summer please PM, she's not like me, she's really nice. All offers open.

Reminds me of a ridiculous situation I ended up in outside a bar in Tynecastle. Zero reason to get pulled over.

We need to take a photo of you. Why? We know who you are. So why do you need a photo then, what’s my name? Scumbag police when I was on my own and causing no trouble.
