The Duk Miovski Model

Recommended Posts

Brilliant scouting to get these two. Was it good professional back room work or did we just get lucky. Whatever these are the quality we need to keep finding and it won’t be in the UK or Ireland. However they ain’t coming to AFC to be bottom 6. Get 3rd or 4th and group stage European football this year and we’ve got at least another season from them both. Could be really good next season. They seem to be enjoying it here so far but as we know we are a stepping stone to ideally England for these guys. Genuinely don’t see the cheeks as the ultimate ambition for them.

According to Millertime it was Mcinnes that is responsible for us signing Duk.

The concensus on here seems to be that Mowbray signed all the good ones and Goodwin signed all the shite ones.

Although I'm sure it was more nuanced than that.

He certainly name dropped Stewart and Scales as players he'd tried to sign previously.

Richardson and Morris were sourced by the recruitment team based on Goodwin's request for very fast players.

Feck knows about the rest.

If folk criticise Mowbray & the recruitment team for Richardson, Morris & Roberts, then they need praised for Miovski, Duk (& Clarkson too).

They just need to increase the “hit rate” a bit though

Agreed. The jury is still out on Roberts he might turn out to be decent if he can stay fit. Whoever thought Richardson and Morris were worth paying transfer fees for must have been smoking something illegal when they watched them as neither resemble professional football players. However I'm sure both would fare very well in 100m races.

Lauritson doing well in Holland also so it appears his scouts that deal with attacking players has been successful 3/3.

We were also trying to get Thijs Dallinga (10 goals in 27 games in Ligue 1) and Casper Tengstedt (ended up moving to Benfica for £6m) in the past summer, so I would like to think that our scouts definitely can spot fantastic attacking players.

This makes the most sense.

Very happy to accept that the blame for signing each of those horrendous players lies with Goodwin.

He was shite at absolutely everything. So it follows, shite at picking (or agreeing on the picks) footballers.

Was in a couple of podcasts from former scout Lee Scott. Casper Tengstedt was based on Horsens not getting promotion from Danish Second Division, we would have got him for £100k. Horsens got promoted and Rosenberg bought him for £1m where he then scored 15 goals in 14 games and got snapped up by Benfica in the winter window.

I didn't say he was responsible

I said if it wasn't for mcinnes, we wouldn't have Duk

Aye, if McInnes never fucked off we would never have seen Duk or Miovski as he was dead against a new structure coming in to play, he'd have been trying to sign Doidge and Moult for the 500th time.

would be hoping for 1 or 2 full internationals like Duk, Miovski and Ramadani joining this summer.

Complemented by some home grown talent and a few spfl players.

Avoid the english leagues it just doesnt work

Could be argued that the main difference in the last few weeks is that we’re not shipping goals nearly as much.  Thanks largely to the performance of Pollock and MacDonald , both signed from relative obscurity in the English leagues.

I’d rather the club explore as many potential hunting grounds as reasonably possible and practical , including the most obvious market outwith Scotland.

Since Brexit, are we limited in the number of non-Brits we can have in our squad either domestically or in Europe?

Do foreign players have to be internationals in order to qualify for a work permit?

I'm just wondering if we will always require a certain amount of British players which may necessitate hunting the leagues down south if we can't produce them ourselves.

Pollock is a loan so not exactly what I was meaning. Of course we should be closely monitoring the fringe players in EPL/Championship for potential loans.

We should be very careful with permanent signings from England. If a player is available to us its because the 100 clubs down there have chosen not to go for him. There will certainly be more risk than reward.

You missed out Shinnie from Wigan

Data, scouting plus luck and folk on both sides willing to make the effort.

Good data and judgement on said data helps us to select and find targets.

Covid-19 probably helped us increase our international scouting reach due to a lot of it moving online.

Luck, that both players have worked out well - others have attributes but don't go on to build other parts of their game. Miovski's Hungarian side going down also helped us.

Moving to another country takes a lot of effort and sacrifice on the part of the folk moving, their family and the people at their company who help them to make a base in a new homeland. I think this is our biggest strength and DM seemed a lot less willing to work with foreigners.

Yeah their would be a bit of truth to that but Mowbray and team would be responsible for some of the shite also. But if we have wasted say 1m on duds and have duk and bojan worth atleast 10m combined it’s surely a massive success? Think the biggest problem here is that we started the summer window with such a poor side we really started from nothing. Now we really have something to build on next season if we can retain these 2. I guess we will find out in summer if these were potential flukes or if the team have an eye for some players. Gunn, Mowbray and his team got to take a bit of credit for this that’s for sure.

I think we'd be expecting a better return on permanent transfers than 2 out of 8 being successes although those two are excellent signings so fair play to the recruitment team.

And I think it's only a success if we meet both our footballing and financial targets. No point not qualifying for Europe and making a profit on transfers. Need both to be working in tandem.

Still early days though so hopefully we can up the successes in the summer and kick on as a club as there will be inevitably some better players moving on to deal with.
