Scottish Cup Outcome In Relation To Europe

Recommended Posts

Best case scenario for Aberdeen...

Celtic wins the semi and the final, Dons finish third in the league and enter the Europa League play-off round.

Worst case scenario...

Sevco wins the semi, the final goes to penalties, and ICT/Falkirk losing would men that the Dons enter the Europa League play-off round.

An ICT/Falkirk cup win would mean that they, instead of us, would enter the Europa League play-off round.

It that were to happen, then the Dons would have to negotiate both a qualifying round and a play-off in the Conference to get into the groups.

Why are you over complicating this with penalty scenarios? Haha

TBH I'm struggling with the notion that Sevco losing a cup final to ICT or Falkirk is a worst case scenario in any Universe.

Fair enough but at this stage I'm nae overly concerned as to which permutation gets us European group stage football, (fingers crossed Europa league) as long as we're there

Negotiating one play-off round in the Europa easily trumps negotiating a qualifying round and a play-off round in the Conference.

Isn't worst case scenario.....we finish 5th in the League?

Wont matter. It'll be Celtic in the final and they won't lose to Falkirk or ICT. Finish 3rd and we'll be in the Europa play-off.

🤞

The thread is about how the Scottish Cup will effect our hopes of a third place finish securing a Europa appearance.

Would take an extraordinary collapse from us and some very unexpected results from Hibs and/or St Mirren for that to occur

But as said...the thread is about how the SC results could affect our season

Was speaking about this at work.

I wonder if there's a way for the club, if we secure 3rd before the SC final, to insure against a freak Caley/Falkirk cup win and reimburse lost group stage revenue.

Anyone in the business of football know if stuff like that happens?

There is.

The bookies.

Reports tonight that St Mirren have been refused a licence for playing in Europe next season, I’m not sure on what grounds, I wonder if ICT and or Falkirk might also struggle if it came to that

Great news. Be interesting to know why. Couldn't be the stadium as they'd surely get the option to play their games elsewhere. Intriguing.
