Alfie Bavidge

I'll be more than happy if we still have Miovski and Duk on our books on the first day of the new season.

Even more so on the day after the summer transfer window closes.

I think we should have an experienced 3rd choice striker (probably aged 30-32) to allow one or both of them to take a break in the later point of matches we are winning, preferably comfortably. With Bavidge getting some first team experience alongside but not every week.

If he's good enough let's promote him and give him opportunities to play rather than have some carthorse clogging up the books and taking a wage just because he has more experience depriving him of valuable game time.

There's no reason why he couldn't have Watkins' minutes next season.

There are some that need loaned out and others that just need the opportunity here. This kid strikes me as being the latter.  No point blocking the pathway of the good ones just for the sake of it.  Will just encourage them to fuck off earlier.

Great news he has signed on.  Hopefully gets some decent game time and shows what he can do.  Couple of goals on his first start would be good, both for him and the fans.  Some folk can be quick to judge the younger players if they're not showing their world class abilities for the full 90 minutes after a handful of games.

If we're sticking with two up front next season we'll need four strikers in the squad.  Hopefully Duk and Miovski are both still here.  If Bavidge is number 3 then do we give another youngster more time (Morris? Harvey?) or go for a more experienced player who offers a different option?

Would be good to have someone who can play wide and centrally, that way you're not just stacking players up on the bench, you can use your better players in different ways but keep them in the first team.

It would be lunacy to run with just Miovski, Duk and Bavidge if we are playing European football through to Christmas, we will need at least 1 more if we are playing two up top.

If Miovski or Duk were to sustain a long term injury after the window closed and we were then forced in to playing Bavidge twice a week there'd be a line of folk queueing up to bash Robson/Gunn and Cormack for ruining the lad.

By all means give him minutes but not at the expense of taking in a 4th striker

I fear that Watkins is that 3rd/4th striker.

Robson appears to like/accept him as a ‘closing out games’ option & Watkins himself would likely happily sign a new deal to only play 10-15 mins a week on decent enough wages.

He would surely have signed an extension before now if that was going to happen.

We can get younger, better and most likely, cheaper in the summer

Possibly waiting until 3rd is confirmed though (either way) hopefully he doesn’t get a deal but especially if he’s the ‘planned’ back up should we finish 3rd

If we are going to play 2 up front regularly 🤞 we will probably need a 4th striker as well (to replace Watkins) especially if we get European groups.

It’s a tough start to season, as Hearts found out

Which young player has had stick and not deserved it?
