Thankfully we got enough money in for sales and add ons meaning a profit for latest accounts.

Long may decent sales continue along with attracting decent players to sell on and this season should benefit with Europe and cup final.

But for player sales we would have lost 6.7m. So as long as we can sell 8m worth of players every season we’re laughing.

The part in bold is a major concern and shouldn’t be glossed over. It’s unsustainable as there is no chance we’ll manage to sell that quantity and quality year after year…

This is spot on.

2022/23 was an exceptional year in terms of player sales (certainly up until now).

I grudgingly accept the principle of the player trading model being at the centre of what they do, but to be able generate that level each year to cover a massive operating loss is a massive gamble.

Far reaching questions need to be asked of DC and the board as they’re not daft and will know it’s the operating profit/loss that defines the genuine health of a business (and some other significant indicators too).

I’m pretty sure they said they were targeting an operating loss of £2m per annum. Might be mistaken though.

DC should be applauded for bringing in close to £20m of investment into the club over recent years, but I’d have real concerns if day-to-day losses of £5-7m are seen as the norm.

We don’t need to sell that every year if we can regularly qualify for Europe.

We’ll post a profit next year too with this seasons European money + the money we’ll get for Miovski.

The strategy does mean we need to find a new Miovski every couple of years though. That’s a concern when you see some of the other dross we’ve taken in

Likewise with managers - keep on employing like we have the last three we won’t see Europe regularly.

Has it not occurred to you that we spent lots of money because we got lots in from player sales, and we wouldn't have spent as much if we didn't have it?

If we had better TV deals , player sales would be less important. But we are undervalued by TV companies

Miovski, Duk and Clarkson will be their next hopes to make the model work over the next couple of years. 

Pretty sure Cormack has said they know the risk and will put money in to balance the books if required.

Agreed. I think we’ll see our league form improve a bit once the European games are over, but I don’t see us going on a run like we did last season.

It's a high risk, high reward strategy which probably couldn't be sustained beyond a bad year or two on the football performance and transfer side of things.

But what's the alternative, accept the status quo forever? We've got to do something to try and change the game a little.

Ironically, the vast majority of our major transfer income in recent years has been from domestic talent. 

The international transfer policy still needs to prove itself fully though I expect Miovski to be a game changer in that regard in the coming months.
