Big game this weekend, as the Germans go to the polls* on Sunday. Looks like it'll be a win for the CDU, and AFD on for second place.

* It's a tap in.

Strange how we get wall to wall coverage of the Yank elections for about 12 months, but the biggest most powerful country in Europe's election barely gets a mention.

Absolutely. See also the french elections.

Our media's obsession with the US is really annoying, and we'd be much better served if it was paid a little less attention.

I fuckin hate America. A nation of thick arrogant arseholes.

Nah, it's full of many wonderful people, enriching the world with their art* and science. I just don't think we should obsess over them.

*They've still not managed to produce a great novelist though.

You not rate Stephen King or going earlier Hemingway, Mark Twain or Harper Lee?

Obviously I'm being a little facetious, but only a little. Stephen King's of a similar ilk to John Grisham, hardly a great. Harper Lee wrote one book (unfinished draft? Pah). Twain's a light hearted comedy writer. Hemingway...is decent enough. But Americans treat him with a reverence which goes beyond what he deserves.

GERMAN ELECTION NEWS:

The centre right won (but got their second lowest vote share ever).

The centre left are out (with their lowest vote share ever).

The big story here is the beginning of the end of the two party dominance in Germany, and the emergence of multiple smaller parties. Similar in the UK is my prediction.

"Things fall apart, the centre cannot hold"

The big story that i see is that reunification has failed again and again.

East / West divide remains as clear as day

The block vote of Omas gegen Rechts won't last much longer.

Tories getting a kicking in the local elections in England this morning, and labour not doing well either. Love him or hate him, Farage is the most consequential politician in the UK since Blair.

Onwards and downwards to the Oz election tomorrow. Hope the crocodiles guy wins the whole thing.
