Like what I've heard about this guy but three years for a near 33-year-old who hasn't played in Scottish football before (ie relatively unknown quantity) is a risk whatever way you spin it. You just have to trust Thelin and hope it works out.

No problem with signing a 32 year old but 3 years is mental, only going to ever benefit 1 party at his age and it's him if he needs paid off.

2 would have been fine and if both parties were happy we could have agreed a new contract at a later date.

I trust Thelin with this one. Nilsen is obviously a very fit lad who is 2 years younger than Robson when he signed for us let's hope he has a similar impact to Barry as a player here. He's Brann's captain who Thelin knows very well so I'm sure he's a very good player with a lot of experience and a winning mentality.

£300k transfer fee would have been even more hefty than it already is for a player approaching his 33rd birthday if we only got him on a 2 year contract.

Just hoping that in 12 months time we aren't regretting it the way we obviously do with Shinnie who definitely got a year too long on the contract he signed.

Thelin obviously highly rates him, so have no problem with the fee. 3 year contract does seem a tad strange, probably down to Nilsen wanting a bit of security, especially coming towards the end of his career. 

Even if we get 2 great years out of him, the fee will be worth it, we're in bad need of change in the immediate term anyway.
