Who are they and what do they do

With the recent arrival of Jimmy Thelin as the new First Team Manager of Aberdeen FC, and driven by the Club’s ambition to consistently challenge for major honours, Aberdeen FC has engaged with Ekkono Soccer Services.

The collaboration will see the provision of support to Aberdeen FC, with Jimmy reunited with Fran Rubio – who he worked with during his successful period at Elfsborg – seconded from Ekkono to Aberdeen FC to be part of the First Team coaching structure, with a specific focus on individual player development and implementation of the game model.

Steven Gunn, Director of Football Aberdeen FC: "Jimmy enjoyed much success through Elfsborg’s collaboration with Ekkono, with their support being a key component of Elfsborg’s positive progress on the pitch. Alongside supporting the execution of the game model, Fran will have a key focus on players within the transition phase between Academy and First Team football, providing focused individual support to our emerging talent and younger First Team players."

Miquel Farrerons, CEO Ekkono Soccer Services: "It is an honour to join forces with such a powerful project at a historic club like Aberdeen FC. We will give our best to achieve the desired results."

Heard similar that it wasn't really his decision

Exactly. And yet people think it was his decision to leave?

Would that have been a decision based off the review of the club?

Could of been both him and the club deciding it’s time , with jimmy coming in simmie may not work the way jimmy wants and there is the new broom sweeps clean so it is expected people would be moved on , or maybe he jumped before he was pushed

Sad to see Simmie go and would have been nice if he could have fulfilled an ambassadorial role with us.

However, the coaching set up needed a complete shake up. There were too many remnants from previous manager appointments in and around the first team.  Looked like a collection of individuals rather than a cohesive coaching team.

If Simmie is working for RAM, than I’d expect to see him in their executive boxes on match days, entertaining clients etc. which he’d be very good at.

So, an ambassador of sorts

Is there not a send off planned for him at the Killie game in two weeks time?

A display of some sort, & he’ll go on the pitch pre-match to wave good bye no doubt.

Do “Ekkono” actually have any sort of track record for this kind of stuff, or is it just more jobs for the boys?

They were doing the exact same job with Elfsborg and Fran Rubio worked with Jimmy over there.

I see they also work with HJK as well as clubs such as Barcelona & PSG.

Will he be serving Ferrero Rocher?

Quite strange that this has all been kept relatively low key, especially in the light of Hearts tie up with Jamestown analytics etc.

The Sporting Director role, that was identified by the report that we lacked, is that being undertaken by Ekkono too?

Glad you brought it up 👍🏻

I commented on this last week. My take on this is they are defining and implementing the model on how we want our academy players to work to. This is similar to what Barry Robson had said he had written up for presentation to the Board, but I guess his 3-5-2 sort of model has rightly been thrown in the bin and now we're working to a JT strategy.

Ekkono will come in, ensure all our coaching staff through all age groups, are aligned to this model and how we want to embed this style and approach so that when they come to 1st team, it's a simple step up for players.

We are still engaged with Bernhard Peters for quite a few things by all accounts, which is why we probably haven't seen the need to go and bring in a Technical Director right now.

So as much as we're not crowing about these things like the fat CEO at Hearts, we're quietly doing things under the radar to implement the findings from Peter's review. Slowly, slowly, catchy monkey.
