Ke1t
37 minutes ago, Edwin Starr said: A tradesman? Guy that put in our landscaping a few years back tried to stiff us for the cost of ripping out a big tree at the front of the house. Tried to say it hadn't been in the original quote, and that if we wanted it removed it was going to be another 25% on top of the already outrageous fucking bill. Which would have been fine, but it was smack in the middle of the area they were replacing, and was obviously part of the initial quote. A letter from our lawyer fella and the guy decided to do the right thing. Most cowboys and shysters will change their minds about ripping you off when you lawyer up, and a simple letter is fairly cheap compared to the cost of eating the thousands your cunt of a tradesman is planning on nobbing you on. 1 Link to comment

madjockmcferson
how would you know? anytime i look up an "average" for a job there are so many variables its almost impossible to work out. an example: im being quoted $200k for a 400 sq ft extension to have a master ensuite and a closet. am i being ripped off? how the fuck would i work it out? id really like amazon to have a tradesman dept where you can just get someone to do something and assume you arent being ripped off. other than that all you can do is go on personal recommendation Edit: ive found getting tradesmen to do stuff here in the US is way easier than the UK. they are more likely to get the job done quick. if we wanted that extension tomorrow we could get it done by end of Jan i reckon. We did some work in the wilderness, where it's nigh on impossible to get any kind of licensed* contractor to even agree to come and look at the job, but we were still able to scratch together three seperate contractors to come and give estimates. * Needed a roof retiled at one point (different job) and when we asked one particular guy who answered out advertisment if he had a license and he said no, but he did own big ladders. 1 Link to comment

JumboJET
We were having issues with condensation in our loft last year. One guy came round, quoted £450 for two new air vent things and repointed some tiles. Another guy, £6,500 for a complete new roof. We decided to go with quote #1. Then #2 started bothering us with texts saying we were making a mistake and we would be back soon asking for a new roof. That has yet to happen and the condensation issue has been sorted. 1 1 Link to comment

Rookie mistake, should have instead started a weed farm in your loft. Could have made £6,500 instead. #MartinLewis 2 Link to comment

I was quoted £14k for a replacement roof a few months back. Signed the papers then two days later I decided, fuck that. Thank fuck for cooling off periods. 1 1 Link to comment

Guest Matt Armstrong's Dog
22 minutes ago, BrianFaePerth said: What did you do to get fired? Honestly, fuck all min. It was a job I could either work at the client company's base in Hartlepool or remotely from home. I tried to login one morning (at home) and received a message, upon trying, saying my account had been disabled. I was like WTF? So immediately phoned the IT department of the company in Hartlepool and they said they weren't aware of any technical issues. I then phoned the agency in Leeds that employed me and was told due to me experiencing "technical issues", I was dismissed. I replied to say that is bollocks and asked what the actual real reason was. "I am not a bullshitter" said the agent, saying this was the truth as to why I was sacked. This being the same agency who had provided wrong details to the client company of my name, therefore it took their IT team 4 fucking days to resolve the matter, in order for me to have permissions to access the databases I needed for my work. Nice of them to tell me I'd been sacked without me being advised of this eventuality, until I found out after the phone call to the agency. Spineless cunts.🤬 Link to comment
