It's amazing how quickly we rush to dismantle our principles and ideals the moment they become inconvenient to us.

Whatever its origins, there is now a commonly understood meaning to that song.

To say Stand Free doesn't mean anything is simply not true, and I'm a wee bitty suspicious of anyone who argues this.

It's commonly understood by weirdos who want to attach their own political meanings to it, like yourself.

Come on, it's a chant, there are no ideals or principles behind it and never has been.

For fuck sake, do you refuse to sing about the reds steaming in because it doesn't fit your principles? The same liberal movement which saw us chanting about us bouncing on folks heads.

Football hooligans started pretty much every long standing chant we've ever used and nobody gave a fuck about the meaning behind them.

Maybe he can explain the deeper meaning and principles behind 'who's that lying at Pittodrie' and 'Ibrox 71'.

You're from Kincorth yet you use the language of the bigoted upper-middle class Guardianista to describe your fellow Aberdonians. As I said, pretty weird.

Are you saying natives of Kincorth are incapable of having views that are enlightened and more conducive to the 21st century?

Go on, call me woke, you know you want to ❄️

If your idea of enlightenment is calling people gammons on a football forum then good luck, you'll need it.

Thank you for your good wishes

I merely suggested non fitba chat could be discussed elsewhere, I’m sorry this was so triggering to you but maybe in time you can mellow

I’ll make this my last non-fitba post on the subject as do I fuck have time for trying to justify myself to folk who have likely clicked one too many times on the daily mail website

All the best to you

Stand Free whoever you may be...

Stand (proudly and) free (of bigotry, racism, religious hatred, etc etc etc...) whoever you may be.

We are the famous Aberdeen.

Don't give a fuck whoever you may be - (we don't care where you come from, what you do, or how important you think you are, what you believe etc because we are better than you)

We are the famous Aberdeen...

The emphasis is on the YOU and WE... my interpretation can't be sung particularly well though... 😂

I for one am glad we've taken a stand against religious sectarianism.

Yes we all are, any normal person would be.

But to believe that somehow Aberdeen fans singing two words Stand Free at the beginnjng of a football chant makes us holier than thou is off the mark.

I dont need a football chant to make me have morals.

Aberdeen fans (myself included) have in the past or still do sing songs about:

You are a weegie, a fucking weegie...

Dundonians raking in a bucket for something to eat

The Ibrox disaster

The Irish famine

Shout 'Fenians', 'Tims', 'Huns', 'Orange bastards' etc.

Songs about players getting their legs broken

Songs about Walter Smith, Fernando Ricksen etc. dying

The idea that we some how rise above all of this and are morally superior to other fans is absolutely hilarious.

You're not the first person who's butchered the words.

Stand free wherever you may be

We are the famous Aberdeen

We don't give a fuck whoever you may be

Cos we are the famous Aberdeen

Surely the last 2 lines are the self explanatory meaning of the song.

We don't really Stand Free from anything.

We just take an aggressive opposing view depending if it's Rangers or Celtic we're playing.

Well that's how it used to be.

Might be an idea to get shot of these first six pages and start again before the poor lad has time to discover we have a fans forum and gets curious to see if he has a thread.

Just want him to get the ball at his feet and start playing now so we can get the focus back to he's really good/shite etc.

They just changed "Care Free" (Chelsea song) to "Stand Free" to make it sound original.

That's it in a nutshell.

I’ve never once thought we were morally superior to any support. We can be quite vile, myself included at certain matches.

‘Stand Free’ maybe wasn’t coined as a neutral term but I can see why some have interpreted that way.

AFC is essentially apolitical in its essence though. We have no religious founders or institutions that we attach ourselves to, out with the city itself.

With that being the foundation of the club, I would argue a lot of folk are absolutely correct in embracing the “whoever, wherever” stance. Many different political opinions are had when everyone is inside Pittodrie, but they aren’t explicitly expressed.

The key difference with us and the big two, and you could argue the Edinburgh two.
When some cunt is suggesting that he’ll be offering folk out on the basis of a flag being present, it completely undermines the principle of the football club, imo.

Completely missing the point of what Aberdeen FC should be for its supporters.
