NorthernLights24
BULGARIAN CUP APPOINTMENT FOR STUART DOUGAL Thursday, 26 Apr 2007 The Bulgarian Football Union has requested the SFA to appoint officials to handle a National Cup Semi-Final on Wednesday 9th May between Litex Lovech and Beroe Stara Zagora. Stuart Dougal has been appointed as the referee. Gordon Middleton and Alan Cunningham will be his assistants. I also noticed that Scottish refs are also handling games in the Irish First Division. How would you feel if you turned up to Pittodrie to find some ref from a random country had been appointed for a league or cup game? Link to comment

ZeroTolerance
How would you feel if you turned up to Pittodrie to find some ref from a random country had been appointed for a league or cup game? Couldn't be any worse than some of the clowns we have to endure. And I would certainly prefer it to Mike Mockery or Rowbotham, etc. Link to comment
Monkey
Dougal's on the FIFA list is he not? If so I suppose it's not that different than european games and may not be a bad idea for cup semis and finals.... Imagine that no old firm ref's for the later stages of the cups... Link to comment
South_Stand_Sage
Heard Kenny Clark on Radio Scotland a few weeks ago talking about Egypt, where they bring in a foreign referee for the derby game every time. Clark said that they'd tried to sneak him in but the fans got wind of it and were following him as soon as he arrived. Quite like the idea of non-Scottish referees in the SPL for games against the old firm, as they wouldn't be aware of our 'traditions' (e.g. allow old firm players to operate to slightly different rules than the rest of the league). Would a non-Scottish referee have sent Ricksen off for kung-fu on Darren Young? Would a foreign referee have awarded a pen when Stavrum broke through and was fouled by Ferguson? Would a european referee have awarded the goal when Winters was clean through v Celtic? would......(continues for hours)..... B) Link to comment
