paulkaneatemyhamster
Afonso Alves, The top goal scorer in Europe last year is missing, Roy McKaay, Alexander Frei, Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Lucas Podolski. I could go on but I wont because it's all opinion. I guess their criteria is 1) Must play in the EPL 2) Any other league sky sports covers extensively. Alves is a top player not sure about the other players last seaon in Serie A Inters middle 3 of Dacourt, Vieira & Figo were out standing domestically - but only one makes the list i suggest we make our own list of the best players in the world - but aren't on this list Link to comment

Sonoftherock
Random choice, and I don't know myself if he's good enough for the top 100, but Mikel Arteta is a brilliant player IMO. I thought he was rotten in the SPL, he was a cowardly player that went missing at Rangers when the chips were down. Apparently he was also very poor at Real Sociedad. However, fair play to him, he's doing well in an Everton side, that right now are absolutely flying. RE: Ibrahimovic, I think a few of you were listening too closely to MON's inane ravings on the BBC during the last World Cup. Ibrahimovic is one of the most gifted players I have ever seen, and his career statistics speak for themself: 1999-2001 Malm Link to comment
minijc
I can't agree with you more here SOTR, i personally think that he is a very very special and gifted player but does have moments of madness and likes a wee sulk now and then but that can't take away how great a player he is. Like you showed, his goal scoring records speak for themself and some of the goals he has scored have just been awesome. Link to comment
Drew Peacock
RE: Ibrahimovic, I think a few of you were listening too closely to MON's inane ravings on the BBC during the last World Cup. Ibrahimovic is one of the most gifted players I have ever seen, and his career statistics speak for themself: I didn't say he wasn't naturally gifted, and i also conceded that i've seen him score a couple of great goals. I just don't think his overall play is as great as it's made out to be. The guy goes missing regularly in games - which is quite an achievement when you're 7 feet tall. And as far as me basing my thoughts on what MON's opinion goes, please don't be so ***king ridiculous - The guy is an idiot, and if he did say something along similar lines then i think it's the first thing i've ever agreed upon with him. It's all about opinions i suppose - my opinion is that he's not the 21st best footballer in the world, and him being ahead of some of the names on that list is a bit daft. (Gattuso, Riquelme, Casillas, Nesta to name some). Link to comment
BobbyBiscuit
These things are always ridiculous. It's unfair on the goalkeepers for a start, as they're often forgotten for the fancy midfield men or the strikers who score 30 a season, but the goalkeeper position is arguably the most important on the park. Had it been broken down into the top 20 of each position then I think that would be fairer. Buffon, Casillas and Cech are at the very peak of their position worldwide, which is nowhere near indicated on that list. Link to comment

Madbad
The list shows the favouritism towards the EPL................end of story. It's in an english-based (and biased) mag, what did you expect. Link to comment

DandyDons1903
Far better player than Mascherano anyway. Can't agree with that. They have different roles for a start, plus Mascherano's 3 years younger. In a couple of years, Mascherano will be the best sitting midfielder in the world, and Alonso will be the best box-to-box midfielder in the world. Mark my words. Link to comment
The Proclaimer
In a couple of years, Mascherano will be the best sitting midfielder in the world, and Alonso will be the best box-to-box midfielder in the world. IMO, Cesc Fabregas will be better than them both. And Steve Gerrard will only be 29 then, reckon he'll still be pretty awesome... Link to comment
Scarface
I got as far as Nakamura on the list, pissed myself laughing, and couldn't take it seriously from there. What a pile of sh*te. Link to comment

tlg1903
024 Rio Ferdinand What a load of bollocks. Am a wee bit surprised, 442 is normally a bit more down to earth compared to the rest of the english football press Link to comment

van basten 9
Personaly i rate ibrahimovic very highy. The guy is a winner, look at the amount of medals the guys got. Managers who know FAR more about the game than us combined are all willing to sign him despite his well documented attitude problems. His goalscoring record stands up pretty well considoring he's not an out and out goalscorer. Link to comment

Leaving aside the debate about Ibrahimovic, the argument that "managers who know FAR more about the game...etc etc" are therefore more knowledgable than us, implies that they all have the same opinion on EVERYTHING to do with the game. Utter crap. Martin O'Neill is a very good manager, but he thinks Ibrahimovic is sh*t. Even at that level of knowledge, it's still just about opinions. Link to comment

Another player MON used to constantly moan about years ago was the great Roberto Mancini..... I found comments like those pretty hard to stomach from the man who inflicted players like Neil Lennon, John Hartson and Bobo Balde on the SPL. Link to comment

We all have an idea how we think the game should be played and what players fit into that style best. Basically oneill reckons he wouldnt do anything significant in one of his sides. Also you can say what you like about balde hartson lennon etc but they got the job done on several occasions. things
but no-one's yet suggested anyone that isn't on it Larrson? What he did with man u for 3 months last year, and at barcelona the previous one surely puts him not just in the list but near the top. But hey - if you head of to play in non-showcase league i guess you don't get a mention Link to comment

Nakamura - Celtic - SPLCastillo - Olympiakiakios - Greece - last season - this season Shakytor Donetsk in the glamor of Ukraine Da Silva - Dinamo Zagreb - Croatia - last seasonPato - Sport Club Internacional - Brazil last season Quaresma - Porto - Portugal Sabrosa - Benfica - Portugal - last season even Nedved & Buffon last season were playing in the glamour of Serie B i'd even go as far as saying the French , German & Dutch leagues are not " showcase leagues" there are top players in every league these days true quality shines through but good shout on Larsson though Link to comment
