Drew Peacock
This made me laugh from Ian Holloway's column on the BBC website - was written prior to last nights result though. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/7028293.stm GREAT WEEK FOR SCOTTISH FOOTBALL For Rangers to go to Lyon and win 3-0 was fantastic and the same for Celtic against AC Milan. Two good teams and they're neck and neck at the top of the SPL so it should be an exciting season. Scottish football is having a bit of a renaissance. For years Alan Hansen was moaning about them having no talent coming through, and now they have, which is nice to see. Three of my grandparents were Scottish. I've been trying to sign one of William Wallace's ancestors for years, that would be fantastic. Bloody English - I think what we were doing up there was disgusting, I'm ashamed of it. One of my daughters has got ginger hair. All she needs is a kilt and I tell you what, if she ran down waving a mallet at you, you'd be scared stiff. Link to comment

I think that this has been in the post for a while. When all the money fell out of scottish football in the mid-late 90's teams started focusing on youth development in a big way. Now we are starting to see the dividends. Its Brill!!!!!!! Link to comment

You'll maybe be able to answer this LondonScottish, is the perception of Scottish fitba changing darn sarf? Any chance we will see English clubs beginning to scout Scottish teams again and maybe have an exodus of our best young players down their instead of to the Old Firm? Or are they still of the opinion that its sh*te up here? Link to comment

Or are they still of the opinion that its sh*te up here? I think everyone's eyes have been reopened, especially with the state of our European Championship qualifying campaign (Please God, touching wood!!), and Celtic and Rangers recent heroics against top class European opposition. However everyone is all too aware that Scottish clubs have always more than held their own against top English opposition, even when the National side became an absolute disaster. I don't think there will ever again be an exodus of Scottish talent being poached for the Premier league. I can't remember the last Scottish player who was taken down South who really made an immediate impact. McFadden is a real player now, but he took a long time to develop; lucky (for us and him) Moyes had such faith in him. The game is more physical, quicker and skilful than the SPL, and its difficult to see where Scottish players would fit into some of the top EPL Sides. I do however think that the Championship teams will be all over the transfer market next Summer, as they know they'll pick up bargains from us and Hibs in particular. And chairmen know they can outpay everyone bar the OF. Link to comment

Mention the regular good performances against English teams in the last ten years and you'll invariably get - "oh but that was Rangers/Celtic against a team that finished mid-table in England". Our keepers are still thought of as a joke - quite laughable when they havn't had a reliable one since Shilton, and Robinson would put Alan Rough to shame. The Old Firm would struggle in the Championship and have no chance in the EPL, and the rest of our teams would just about be conference standard. Of course, not a one has ever so much as watched highlights from Scotland, but that doesn't stop them adhering to their pre-concieved ill-founded ideas. Link to comment

Cato scored the goal which pretty much clinched the league title in the 92nd minute on Monday night . That "Gordon for England" chant sounds alright though? Link to comment

Everyone I know down here has most certainly not been dismissive of Scottish results, both National team and club, in the last few weeks. Anyone that knows football would have been more than impressed in particular with Rangers result in Lyon, and Scotlands home and away heroics against France. How could anyone not be?? People down here are beginning to sit up and take notice; its a bit difficult for them not too, painful as it may be. As for the keeper situation, Gordon's been getting rave reviews in the EPL, is justifying his huge price tag and will more than likely be snapped up by a "big" club within 2 years; there's very few England fans who have seen Gordon in action at the moment who wouldn't swap him for Robinson if they could. The English who remain dismissive of Scottish football recently, are either too fick to read the results/qualifying tables, cannot afford a television to watch any highlights, or are just plain jealous/. I couldn't give a ***k what those ***ts think anyway!! Link to comment
