Jocky Balboa
I wanted to post this separately from the Independence thread, as it deserves its own discussion and/or refuttal. These people have called several things right in the past, so it is more than just scaremongering? http://info.moneyweek.com/urgent-bulletins/the-end-of-britain/?infinity=gaw~DISPL%2BSPCFC%2BThe%20End%20Of%20Britain~DISPL%2BSPCFC%2Binterest%2BFinances~26002517709~placement:www.blabbermouth.net~c&gclid=CNzG4LCp2LoCFYbLtAodBRUAvw Surely a total economic collapse can't happen here. Or can it? Link to comment
caledonia
Only had time to read half of it as its a big read but you would think that finally governments would have learned some lessons of the past mistakes to not let it happen again. Not saying there wont be an economic collapse only not so bad as previous ones..I do expect something big disaster wise on the horizon but was thinking more a total collapse of the computer systems that run everything these days...Or even a big natural or nuclear disaster Link to comment

Ke1t
Shits coming... But having savings won't help when bread is a hundred quid a loaf. Stock up on foodstuffs like rice and oats, get out of the city, keep your head down... Link to comment
cow
Way too much money wasted in housing stock in the UK. It needs to crash like what's happened in Ireland, hence why the governments keeping interests rates as low as possible. So we'll end up flat lining like Japan for the next 25 years if No Scotland wins next September, and no doubt Labour will be keep to add big numbers to the UK's governmental debt. External debt is also crippling in the UK, it's a nation state that's encouraged micawberism. Clearly taking 130 billion and running with a 2 trillion asset is the common sense solution. Which is why onionists don't like talking numbers. Link to comment

The way things are going I'd say earlier, our debt is spiralling, the government is doing nothing at all to take it down, the deficit is still rising just as quickly as it was when the Conservatives took over, redistibution of money is still happening its just the 4% or whatever thats got their pot growing though the rest of us are almost hand to mouth. Everything points to the UK being fucked, totally fucked and soon. Yeah great + then the hard sell of the mag kicked in = 0 cred for rest of vid and wasted 45 mins of my life. Cheers. If true, bad. But these opportunist cunts still had to try and make a quid. Fuck that. Come on to fuck min. You honestly expect a company that sells a product not to take advantage of an opportunity to sell that product? It was after all the sales of that product that allowed them to write this and every other article they have written in the first place. I'm guessing you always boycotted the news on the commercial channels, dont read newspapers that have adverts and dont go into shopping centres because they have billboards that show you stuff you dont want nor need for sale in shops you werent actually going to go into as well, do you? dervish
Makes sense to me but their plan to save yourself involves investing in the very markets they predict will collapse? Seems eh counter intuitive. Most basic thing I can think of is pay off your debt now while it's still cheap (especially mortgage). Once you've paid all that off then (and only then) invest in tangible things rather having savings. Link to comment
Jings Crivvens
At the rate the debt is rising, if we vote yes at independence then take our share of this rising debt at the time of independence, could we end up in the shit as well.....is there a chance of lose lose situation here??? I'm no financial expert, but it don't look good either way Link to comment

I'm no financial expert, but it don't look good either way Good question, although I wanted to post it outwith the independence thread, so that is be given its fair due as a topic in itself and not be dragged down by bickering on both sides of the Referendum debate. Having said that, Scotland's finances are in better health than the rUK. For now. BUT, the voting habits in Scotland are distinctly more leftist (i.e. more statist) than England in particular. I wonder if this impending economic collapse would see us shift to the right, in the event of either Referendum outcome...? Personally, I think the old left/right dichotomy is as narrow minded as it is outdated in this post-Cold War climate. Moreover, both sides have proved utterly useless in solving the debt crisis. dervish
The important thing is what would be the situation in Scotland without independence (rather than UK, due to the UK set policy) and what would the situation be in an independent Scotland? Growth lately has meant London (basically) so that's what the policy has been set for. That will continue, where London out grows the rest of the UK. The inevitable end product of that is the rest will end up sucking on the nipple of London (long term the delta between London and the rest will only grow and so London will only become more important and policy more distorted). Anyways great video here (try ignore that it calls the UK England though...). http://youtu.be/PHe0bXAIuk0 Link to comment

Ke1t
I worry about the world my Son will inherit... and all because of the irrational greed and utter incompetence of the sheeple and politicians. If you think about this kind of thing for too long you can start getting paranoid. I think before you have kids you don't really give a fuck about global warming, economic collapse, or any of the bad shit that you see in the news night after night. Then you have a kid and you start worrying how they're going to cope in a world that could very well go to shit. Global warming, overpopulation, decreasing food supplies, dead zones in the oceans, mass animal deaths for no apparent reason, altered climate patterns, declining resources... if I wasnt the ludicrously cheerful fucker I am I could very well get depressed about this, and I can understand why others would. The best thing you can do is teach your kid to be capable, fit, and self-sufficient in order to give them the best chance in life, even if shit doesn't get bad. No harm in teaching them good habits. I'm probably one of those overzealous parents, like... and I won't even list all the shit we've signed the loon up for... but if your kid is fit, active, and taught the basics of looking after him/herself, then you're doing everything a parent can do. One thing I discovered about kids is that in house fires many children are found dead right by a window they couldn;t get open, and they were too scared to smash the glass in order to escape. Needless to say we've repeatedly told the loon that in the event of a fire he kicks in, smashes, or batters down anything that stands in the way of him getting out of the house. Since he was about 2 years old he's known to push the 911 number on the phone or the Emergency Onstar Button in the car if he needs help. I think a lot of kids just aren't prepared to deal with emergencies, let alone given the basic skills they'll need to survive in the shitfest that is the modern world. Link to comment

Ke1t
Aye, it's a bastard of a balance letting the kid be a kid and also preparing them for the realities of life I think If a kid enjoys the stuff they're doing then they're going to have fun while they're learning. Fortunately loons naturally enjoy all the stuff that they need to learn anyway. Not sure how it would work for lassies who seem to be naturally more reserved than loons. If you have a loon, though, I think it's pretty easy. Link to comment

I have no idea what any of that means. Sounds like women's work, though When it comes to finances I'm borderline mentally retarded... in fact, mentally retarded is probably a step up compared to my financial 'skills' Fortunately I use a popular financial group to deal with shit like pensions, investments, stocks, bonds, and complicated shit of a fiscal nature. If I didn't have a financial advisor... or a wife who understands these kinds of things... I'd be homeless inside a fortnight, regardless of income. I happily concede to being practically innumerate, so there's a good chance I won't be the parent teaching him about finances. Link to comment

Ke1t
So do you have to pledge allegiance aside from when in school? You have to swear allegiance to the United States several times during the process, renounce allegiance (though not necessarily citizenship) with all other countries, and promise to bear arms in defence of the US.... which I think is a fairly reasonably request. Why would you allow citizenship to someone whose philosophy was, "Fuck you... I'm no helping ye, ye Yankee bastards!" I'm not an ungrateful bastard, though... if the country that allowed me to become a citizen, whether that's America, Pakistan, or Australia, wanted me to shoot some Chinese as a matter of national defence then I'd happily shoot the little fuckers. "Get off my lawn!" I'd say. Anyway, I digress, Aye, the pledge of allegience is a pretty prominent part of the citizenship process. Link to comment

dervish
Bellamy's views on immigration and universal suffrage were somewhat less egalitarian. He wrote: "[a] democracy like ours cannot afford to throw itself open to the world where every man is a lawmaker, every dull-witted or fanatical immigrant admitted to our citizenship is a bane to the commonwealth.”[6] And further: "Where all classes of society merge insensibly into one another every alien immigrant of inferior race may bring corruption to the stock. There are races more or less akin to our own whom we may admit freely and get nothing but advantage by the infusion of their wholesome blood. But there are other races, which we cannot assimilate without lowering our racial standard, which we should be as sacred to us as the sanctity of our homes."[9] Guy who wrote it seemed nice. Is only a trivial web search but really pretty bad. Anyways never understood why (I think) kids have to do it every day at school? Seems insecure to me? Link to comment

The Toy Box, where a man can watch young flibberty gibbets get their tits out amd possibly have himself a private room session for a reasonable fee... at least it seems reasonable to me, but being innumerate I could be way off... maybe go throw rocks at the Fermi nuclear plant... go to any number of famous bars and watch the black folks try to escape crushing poverty by rapping really, really badly... go see the Arabs in Dearborn, the Greeks in Greektown, and the Mexicans in the Fallout 3 surroundings of Mexicantown. ?..but if it was the bad kind of weegies who turned up, I'd call the Gang Squad and watch them get arrested, raped, beaten and shot. Oh, they'd try to gallus their way out of it, but that wouldn't fly with officer Arserape. Link to comment
