I remember buying 'Different Class' by Pulp in the upstairs of Fopp when it just came out. That was 1995. (I remember clearly, because it was 9.99 and I gave the guy a tenner and he gave me change of a twenty. Fucking great score when you are 14!) Link to comment
Fridge
Actually was never a fan of pulp but absolute full respect for the Jarvis / Micheal Jackson shit at the brits. Link to comment

Everyone in my generation certainly went through their skater phase. Was a right of passage wearing the big bolt London baggy jeans with the chain accompanied with the Korn or blink 182 hoody. Fridge
In a complete random story I was in Kiev with work and there was some sort of car shit going on with folk showing off with their fancy cars. Cannonball run style in the the Hyatt. I was just in the hotel bar and ended up getting interviewed on tv with Tony Hawk (skateboarder) Just played along, fuck knows who the Ukrainians think I am. About 15 years ago? It was behind Markies at somepoint wasn't it? Elementz was on Gaelic lane to start with then moved to union street where CEX is now I think. 1 hour ago, styrofoamplates said: It was definitely behind Markies at one point. Was it not above Fopp and then Fopp took the space and went on two floors? There was also a skate shop on Gaelic Lane, think it was Elementz. I remember buying a Aem'Kei jumper out of there around 1999. Borderline was the shop beside Markies. Link to comment

Now I think about it, upstairs Fopp was narrow and the stairs went down to the larger area. Link to comment

King Street Loon
Was in the city centre yesterday. Union Street is like a shanty town To Let signs a'wye. Reminded me of Barrow in Furness town centre in 2008. Link to comment

Fridge
It’s shite. Think it was maybe going that way anyway with online shopping etc but it is grim. Apart from going for a pint or a haircut why would you I suppose. Link to comment

Fridge
Very good! i actually reckon I have half kept the city centre alive recently with my ridiculous alcohol consumption! 1 1 Link to comment

The amount of dough I spent in that place over the years. Yeah that Tower Records store was something else. Aberdeen used to be full of record stores. You could spend a day browsing. The old hmv, virgin, couple of One Ups, Bruce Millers, the section in John Menzies, there was even a wee record shop on Holburn Street which had a lot of rare stuff, it's name escapes me now. Great for a skint student, curious about everything on there, but too skint to buy blind, full price (pre-internet days) And you could smoke tabs in there. 2nd hand vinyl bit downstairs at One Up was ace aswell. Redforever86
Aye, it's mental how much city centre shopping has gone downhill even in the last 15 years. I could finish my part time student job and hit markies for some reduced food, FOPP for a random arcade fire album and Miller and McLeish deli before it became peckhams for what I thought back then was some amazing goose island IPAs etc. Link to comment

Back catalogue cds and decent paperback books for £3-5. Was still worth a browse. Spotify and YouTube killed it. Link to comment
OddJob
Aye spent a fortune in record shops over the years and as said very disappointing to see them all pretty much gone obviously due to online buying nowadays. Fopp & OneUp were my favourites but bought from all of the stores Link to comment

manboobs109
Grouchos in Dundee has closed. Shame as it was a great wee shop. I read the staff are trying to open a shop elsewhere so fingers crossed. Link to comment
styrofoamplates
I was back in Aberdeen last year for the first time in about six years. I was amazed at the decline of the city centre. Union Street is basically full of bookies and charity shops. Sad decline from the halcyon days when i was a lad. As mentioned above, I'd trek from HMV to Virgin to One Up to Fopp and then to Plan 9. Was amazed that Plan 9 is still open. Fucking loved that place when i was about 12-15! Cunt behind the counter was the same guy that used to serve me 25 years ago! Link to comment

Cunts standing as look outs for the police to give the 'vendors' a warning. The police though used to get around this genius plan by going in plain clothed. Lol ? What are they like? There was a stall that sold second hand wank mags. Aye, that stall was always busy aswell! Used to get Atari and Amiga games from the barras most weekends. If one place didn't have what you wanted, one of the others would. Or they'd 'get it in for you' - in around half an hour normally. Great customer service Link to comment
