shut up meg
@@Bluto10 I'm thinking of going to The Netherlands for 4-5 days in October with the wife (so no heavy drinking).Going to rent a car, would you recommend going south or west of Amsterdam? Thanks in advance. Link to comment
Bluto10
Depends what you want to do min The best urban centres are short train journey to the south West has a great nat park with Van Gogh museum. 4/5 days, I'd stick to the ams - Rotterdam train line and take a few steps off that. shut up meg
Rotterdam is good for a carry on Lots of student women To lie too I been to Rotterdam twice, once last year with my work, horrible job that took up all my time. The only time I had free time, it was pishing down and the place was deserted. The other time was for Euro 2000. I was blootered the whole day and had a great time, can't really remember anything about the place though. Link to comment
Bluto10
it's very dynamic these days has changed a lot recently But, you have to know where to go caisson first glance it's a nae like your average Dutch city Link to comment

I prefer city breaks to outdoor stuff and we normally just mooch about the towns we visit, occasional museum and stopping off at cafes here and there for a drink.I'm thinking about the car as the wife wants to see a bit of the country.I was thinking of even going as far as Belgium. We've been to Ghent and Brugge before and I've been to Brussels years ago (same as Rotterdam, can't remember much about the place due to drink). What's your thoughts on Antwerp and Brussels? Bluto10
Both worth visiting.Grand Ola e in Brussels is amazingAntwerp is the lively young city of Belgium But if you're in Amsterdam and have 4/5 days then time is limitedCause ams is definitely worth more than 1 day?Perhaps staying in nl is better bake more efficient? rumpus
Maybe just because I'm cleverer than most, but I find Dutch cities uninteresting and the people one-dimensional. Prefer Germany. Link to comment

I like them both, far better work/life balance than your average North East Scotland worker and proper seasons as well. Link to comment
Bluto10
Yep, in the Cool district, you could tell it had been flattened in WW2.Far more than just there. The war here is totally different to my upbringing in the U.K hearing about the blitz, d day etc. Seen pics of panzer tanks on market square 100 meters awayQuite interesting if you like that sort of history. My house in face was used by the SS Link to comment

My house in face was used by the SS I'm well into WW1 & WW2, that's one of the main reasons I like going to France, Germany and the Benelux countries.Loads of interesting stuff round each corner and after you've had enough of that, there's brilliant cafe culture. rumpus
^ It's not really worth 'meandering' through chum. Flat as a pancake, boringly repetitious and populated by arrogant beanpoles. Give it a miss and jump on the train to Brugge. Link to comment
Singapore Steve
Should check out Ubud, bud. I did and it was beautiful. 2nd time to Bali now and still not sure of the place. The traffic is a complete cunt and can ruin a nice day. I would also next time maybe look to book a villa. The beaches are way to Busy so would like to check out possibly the North area to see if there is actually any quiet, picture perfect beaches on the island. Had my parents with me and i think they enjoyed it. The temperature is considerably better than Singapore. Link to comment
