Tord31
Paying him 5k a week to stay would be absurd, could get a much better midfielder in for that sort of money.Debateable Link to comment
minijc
DebateableIf we couldn't source a better midfielder than Shinnie for that amount of money then we should close the doors. Link to comment
boboisared
Big signing decision for him. At this point in his career he needs to look after things financially. He has no emotional attachment to Aberdeen FC since he is not a fan. If Wigan are offering a considerable package, then good luck to him. I'm sure he'll continue to give 100%. He will be welcome back in Aberdeen any time - unlike the rat. Ok. Knows exactly what’s happening as does the club and gives us six month lead in to replace him. Meanwhile we know we’ll get 100%. Not seeing the issue. Short of the Maclean deal where we bizarrely got him cash plus player this is the next best outcome. Thanks Graeme. Anyone deriding your contribution simply hasn’t been watching or has a very short memory. Next. Ps leaving with silverware would be just dandy ta.This. Plus, he could just be fed up with playing the same teams 3-4 times a season. Link to comment
Ten Caat
If I was Shinnie I'd be open to staying at the Dons for something like £5k/week on a five year deal. He's already on £5k/week.... Our offer was to make him the highest ever paid player at the club equivalent to what Mcgeouch was offered in the summer (assume therefore £6k/week). However Wigan will be offering at least 50% more than we can. Over a 3 year deal, that's nearly £500k more. No brainer at his age. What is obscene is that in the league above where he is going, there are quite a few players who make £500k in a fortnight. Link to comment

I don't think we'll find a player with the same drive and will to win though. That's the issue. Some folk have screamed for a Willo Flood type. That's Shinnie, just far, far better. It's a shame we didn't have someone who could dictate play beside him for most of the season. He's expected to do too much, some of which he doesn't really have in his locker. 2 Link to comment

The offer was to make him the highest paid player at the club. Not the highest ever paid. You reckon we'd have paid him more than what Craig Hignett was getting? Link to comment

Picks up a lot of silly bookings being out of position and getting frustrated. There is no agenda against him, he just runs about a bit like a headless chicken. As you say though, great drive and determination and will be missed as a captain. 1 Link to comment
Tord31
It is certainly possible to source a better central midfielder than Shinnie. McInnes doing so will be a challenge. Short of us getting Kenny McLean, Dylan McGeouch etc Link to comment
StandFree1982
Is there any truth / fact behind this Shinnie to Wigan story? Or just newspaper goss? Link to comment
Tord31
He's not signed for anyone but presumably some truth in the interest. Link to comment

Tord31
The Sun have Shinnie away to wigan in the summer. Sun chief reporter already said um its interest yet but not quite a deal Link to comment
King Street Loon
Wigan LOL Obviously a money driven move.Shite team ,but a nice wedge every month. Will miss his enthusiasm as captain and drive, but as a midfielder we can do better. 1 Link to comment
oilcat
Six months at Wigan, a few Carabao Cup appearances then loaned to Hibs in January 2020 window. Sadly, that is probably the way it will pan out Link to comment
strachanmcgheegoal
Lewis Ferguson to replace in DM role? Seems suited for it. Definitely rather we tried to move to a one destroyer two creator model in the middle. Derek always seemed to start his team sheet (and this is maybe a reflection of the players available) with two destroyers in front of his centre halves and takes it from there. 1 Link to comment
1903Fitba
Punt Shinnie now and take Mulumbu on loan. Gives Mcinnes another 6 months to find a replacement. Link to comment

Tord31
Not convinced Shinnie will struggle in Championship. He's built for the 55-60 games a season they go in for down there. He'll be more swim than sink and a shite team is probably a good way to go. At a promotion chaser his lack of goals and assists would see him benched by September Link to comment

Loads of players don't get to Europe (or even Dubai). Punt Shinnie now and take Mulumbu on loan. Gives Mcinnes another 6 months to find a replacement. McInnes would get that, regardless.
