we can easily get into a discussion about why so many black people cant swim, specifically black children, and its due to segregation and lack of facilities in poorer neighborhoods. saying black people cant swim is a stereotype thats rooted in racism due to these factors.

Black children only live in poor areas with no swimming pools? Bit of a racist stereotype. Segregation isn't a thing in Britain.

You're new here but, FYI, there's no point trying to have a nuanced and reasonable conversation on here about a topic like that.

im referencing the US. institutional racism here is certainly more deeply embedded than the UK.

the US systematically dismantled its provision of public services such as lidos and swimming pools and parks in the mid part of the last century, almost wholly because white people didnt want to share facilities with black people. they shut them down, despite these things being popular with whites, because of racism. they effectively privitized the provision of these public goods. the legacy continues today and we see it in the disparate rates of drowning among among black people, especially children.

For the most part your black can't swim. It's because of a bone density issue. Absolutely nothing to do with being banned from swimming pools. You ever heard of rivers, lakes and the sea?

Educate yourself FFS.

What's stopping black folk swimming in Africa?  Or Britain. Believe it or not, there's a whole world beyond America.

This bone density thing.

Does that also mean they can’t fly?

From personal observation.

We have a community pool near us, and our demographic is majority white with some Arabs, Poles, Italians, and one Scottish lad.

Any time you went to the pool the patrons reflected our demographic. But one summer Black People of African American colour (hereafter referred to as BPoAAc) started appearing at the pool. One or two at first, and eventually the majority were black... over the course of one Summer.

UInlike the Whites, Arabs, Poles, and Italians, the BPoAAc were noisy, rude, left shit laying everywhere, and routinely got into fights and screaming matches with each other.

Turned out the pool they went to in Detroit had closed down, and instead of going to another Detroit pool they decided to all head out to the burbs and use the pool our taxes paid for.

Regardless, before I quit going to that pool... my son had learned to swim by this point, so no real need to go... it was pretty apparent that none of the BPoAAc's could swim worth a fuck. What they did was a sort of frantic doggy paddle in radom directions, making it difficult for anyone to swim in a straight line. You basically had a pool full of BPoAAc randomly swimming in erratic patterns, ignoring lanes and fighting with anyone they smacked into.

After this experience no-one's convincing me BPoAAc's take the time to learn to swim.

Also, one of our friend's daughters was a lifeguard at the waterpark in our city during the summers before she went off to college. She rescued 4 kids. 1 white kid and 3 BPoAAc, pretty much solidifying my suspicions that while BPoAAc Can't Swim is perhaps a stereotype, it's a stereotype with a strong basis in reality.
