brownie
8 hours ago, Simply Red said: https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/news/aberdeen-aberdeenshire/6392696/stonehaven-council-debate-orange-walk/ Quote Stonehaven local's 'vigorous fight' against proposed Orange Walk Ā 4 minutes Stonehavenās community council says it will put up a āvigorousā fight on behalf of residents to ensure a proposed Orange Walk does not go ahead. Councillors are set to debate the procession during Aberdeenshire Councilās latest Kincardine and Mearns area committee meeting tomorrow, deciding whether to allow the parade to proceed ā with or without conditions ā or to prohibit the event entirely. More than 200 members of the Orange Order intend to take part in a flute march from Stonehaven Town hall to Dunnottar Church on March 16, to mark the opening of its new north-east lodge. Laminated leaflets are circulating in Stonehaven. Stonehaven community council applauds response Following the backlash, itās understood that Stonehaven District and Community Council has held emergency talks in response to the the proposals. Members have been joined by local voices as they put together a case against Stonehaven hosting the Orange Walk. It is believed that a number of people opposed to the plan have requested to speak at tomorrowās committee meeting to call for the parade to be prohibited. A community council spokesperson said: āStonehaven & District Community Council congratulates the community on its response to the proposed Orange Walk in Stonehaven. āThe Community Council will put up a vigorous fight against this proposed Orange Walk on behalf of the community.ā The Waterfront Cafe has threatened to close over ātroubleā caused by Orange walk. Orange Order maintain that Stonehaven lodge is justified Today, the Orange Order accused the petition of āstirring up anti-Orange and Protestant hatredā. The group has insisted that āsignificant interestā from locals warranted the opening of the lodge, and that people from Aberdeen, Forfar, Peterhead, and Perth have been travelling to meet. In a statement, organisers said that just like those who have the right to petition, they also have the right to celebrate what they believe in. A spokesman for the order said: āAs with most new lodges, a parade to celebrate the opening has been arranged and notification (not application) was provided to Aberdeenshire Council and Police Scotland. āThe parade will also remember those many covenanters in Stonehaven who were tortured and murdered for their reformed faith, and a wreath will be laid in remembrance of their sacrifice. āOn the petition, everyone has a right to object that is one of the human rights we support. āWe also have the right to celebrate our culture in the way we like under the European Convention on Human Rights.ā Dunnottar Castle is one of the main features of the new lodgeās logo. Petition used to āstir up anti-Protestant hatredā The Orange Order has also questioned the petitionās validity after claiming it was widely shared across ārepublican, nationalist and Celtic pagesā. āThis encourages them to help with its numbers and use hate language against the Orange Institution and the Protestant faith,ā they said. āThe petition has been shared to stir up anti-Orange and Protestant hatred, and should be called out as such. āWe respect individual views, but this is an orchestrated attack on our institution and the wider Protestant faith.ā A bar and a cafe in the town have said they will shut if the procession goes ahead. brownie
The Times have an article on the organiser. I hope the cunt is sacked. Council tax is paying for this clown. Ā Quote Sectarian march organiser posted anti-Muslim slurs online Calls to halt the march in Stonehaven by members of the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland redoubled after William Henryās inflammatory posts came to light Ā Marc Horne Tuesday March 05 2024, 12.00am GMT, The Times William Henry called for halal meat to be banned and posted images of bacon alongside the message āHappy Porktoberā The man behind plans for a controversial sectarian march circulated anti-Muslim slurs, likened a Celtic manager to an ape and suggested that Nicola Sturgeon should be deported to Rwanda, it has emerged. William Henry has applied to his employer, Aberdeenshire council, to bring busloads of fellow members of the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland into the east coast town of Stonehaven for a procession on March 16. Almost 10,000 people have signed a petition opposing the planned march, which would be led by the Pride of the Rock flute band from the west coast town of Dumbarton, 140 miles southwest of Stonehaven, claiming it would āpoison our peaceful environmentā. Ā It has emerged that Henry, an operations co-ordinator with the local authority, posted a succession of inflammatory messages online, prompting fresh calls for the march to be halted. The lodge confirmed it had begun an investigation into comments he made on social media. In one example Henry, originally from Lanarkshire but now resident in Brechin, Angus, shared a post on Facebook which asserted that British Muslim communities ārefuse to integrateā. āThere are now dozens of no-go zones within major cities across the country that the police force dare not intrude upon,ā he wrote. āSharia law prevails there because the Muslim community in those areas refuse to acknowledge British law.ā Henry also circulated offensive images of the former Celtic manager and praised Oliver Cromwell Henry posted a cartoon of a Trojan horse wearing an Arabic headdress outside the gates of Europe, suggesting that terrorists are posing as refugees, called for halal meat to be banned and posted images of bacon alongside the message āHappy Porktoberā. He circulated a number of images of Tony Mowbray, then the manager of Celtic Football Club, which depicted him as a macaque monkey, a chimpanzee and an orangutan. Henry, a former serviceman, posted an image of the former SNP leader with the slogan āDeportation flight to Rwanda takes off at the eleventh hourā, suggested he would ārather have Putin than Sturgeonā and wrote: āLetās have a hung parliament. Hung being the operative word.ā He paid tribute to Oliver Cromwell, who carried out atrocities and imposed a series of anti-Catholic laws after invading Ireland in the 17th century, writing: āCould do with this boy to sort out a few of them now.ā Critics said that Henryās comments would encourage ādivision and anxietyā Henry, who posted images of himself with an orange in his mouth and sitting in the civic leaderās chair at the headquarters of Aberdeenshire council, also recorded his visit to the Ulster Rangers Supporters Club on the Shankill Road in Belfast on July 11, 2019. In the same year the supportersā club used social media to pay tribute to a late member of the Ulster Volunteer Force, a proscribed terrorist organisation, and referred to a Celtic supporter as a ābead-rattling bastardā. Henry recorded another visit to Northern Ireland by writing: āSeems strange walking through the city centre of Belfast without a flak jacket and a rifle.ā Maggie Chapman, the Green MSP for northeast Scotland, described Henryās comments as ātruly disgusting, divisive and hatefulā. āI urge councillors to reflect on the impact that awful comments like this from one of the organisers could have, as well as the long history of marches like this in fuelling division and anxiety,ā she said. āThey must reject it.ā Orange marches in the west of Scotland have been associated with antisocial behaviour JEFF J MITCHELL/GETTY IMAGES Kevin Stewart, the SNP MSP for Aberdeen Central, said: āThese kinds of horrific comments from the organiser show us exactly why it is that this Orange Order march should be banned. āThe northeast is known for its tolerance and the last thing we need here is an intolerant, sectarian event in Stonehaven. āI hope that councillors will take account of the organiserās social media posts and remarks and vote against this march for the good of the northeast.ā Orange marches in the west of Scotland and Northern Ireland have been associated with drunken disorder and sectarian bigotry. Some businesses in the town said they would close for the day over fears of violence and antisocial behaviour if the procession is allowed to go ahead. David Walters, the chief executive of the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland, said it ārespects all faiths, beliefs and backgrounds and expects from our membersā. āIndividual members have the right to express their own views, which in a democratic society is a fundamental freedom we support, but if those views conflict with their qualifications as an Orangeman or Orangewoman or bring the institution into disrepute then this is a matter which will be dealt with internally by our governing body,ā he said. āIf our investigation merits any disciplinary action, this will be carried out by the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland as the governing body of our institution.ā The lodge describes itself as a Protestant fraternity that supports religious freedom, civil liberties, the British monarchy and UK unity.
