Bamber
20 team league All teams play each other twice you then have a draw and play another team but the top 5 wont play each other = 10 games to be played you then travel around the world and play in 5 cities - 2 matches in each city that extra game you play the points go towards the league so you play 19 teams twice and 1 team three times sound daft? sound an APril fool joke? look away now Link to comment
roccovellhung
Just a matter of time, and with all the overseas club owners who have more interest in money than the club then I think it'll happen sooner rather than later Link to comment

Dandyjam
Sounds like Premiership just wanting to create more money for themselves and clubs whilst further raising profile globally. Stupid idea and just edging Premiership even closer to being a franchise. Link to comment

Guest GoldFinger
IF this happens they can't do it last week of the season. That would be a frigging joke. The idea of Arsenal having to play Spurs and Chelsea playing Derby is another definite option. Total joke, hope it never happens. Link to comment

fatshaft
Platini says NO! http://uk.reuters.com/article/sportsNews/i...lBrandChannel=0 LONDON (Reuters) - UEFA president Michel Platini has attacked the Premier League's plans to consider staging league matches overseas, describing the proposal as a joke. "It's a strange and comical idea, the former France playmaker was quoted as saying in an interview with Saturday's Daily Telegraph. "I laughed because it will never be received by FIFA, by the fans and by the national associations. "It's a nonsense idea... Soon you will have in England no English presidents (of clubs), you already have no English (national team) coach, you have no English players and maybe now you will have no clubs playing in England. It's a joke." A new "International Round" of Premier League fixtures, to be staged over one weekend in January in cities that bid for the host rights, would extend the Premier League season to 39 matches for each of the clubs from 38 by the 2010-11 season. The plan, which all 20 clubs agreed to explore, has met a chorus of disapproval from fans and the media and has received a mixed reception from club managers. Prime Minister Gordon Brown told the BBC in an interview to be broadcast on Saturday the validity of the proposal depends on its benefit to supporters. NO CIRCUS World football's governing body FIFA said it would look at the plan when its executive committee meets on March 14. But a spokesman said on Thursday that "at first glance it would seem the Premier League will find it difficult to get its way". Platini told the Telegraph he had discussed the proposals with FIFA president Sepp Blatter on Friday and they agreed that exporting European club matches to parts of the world where the game was developing would stifle progress in those countries. "We share the same idea that it's the responsibility of the national associations, and I am sure they will never accept it because it's not good for football. "I think the FA (Football Association) of England will oppose it," Platini added. "The beauty of football is you have some values, you have the teams, you have the fans, you represent something important and you are not a travelling circus." Patty
I saw something on the back of the Sun about an Old Firm game in Austrailia? Is that gonna be a league game or a friendly? Didnt bother reading it as it's probably a pile of pap! Link to comment
NorthernLights24
Playing a league game thousands of miles away, can anyone think of a Scottish club daft enough to propose such a move? I can... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtm...04/sfnhea04.xml Its an old story now. Link to comment

Why can't the top leagues in Europe instead get together and organise some friendlies in the summer in different countries around the world? Link to comment

NorthernLights24
The US Soccer Federation and the Asian Football Confederation have both distanced themselves from the plans today. Bit of a blow during the early stages of this proposal as N.America and Asia are probably seen by the likes of Scudamore as prime areas to play oversea games. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...rem/7239788.stm On the subject of playing games abroad I notice that in the aftermath of the Manchester derby Man Utd were quick to blame the mid-week international games... "We believe the team was affected by international call-ups," said Queiroz. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...rem/7237856.stm No prizes for guessing which club played in a testimonial match in Saudi Arabia last month with a pretty strong team.
