Aidy Bootheroyd

Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd has left the club by mutual consent following a disappointing start to the season.

The Hornets are currently 21st in the Championship table, following Saturday's 4-3 defeat by Blackpool.

The 37-year-old, who took over in March 2005, led Watford to the Premier League in 2006 before they were relegated after one season in the top flight.

Chairman Graham Simpson told the club website: "Both parties feel his tenure at the club is simply at an end."

Simpson added: "It is with some sadness that we have taken the decision, along with Aidy, that the time is right for a new manager to take Watford forward.

"We have mutually decided that a parting of the ways is in the best interests of all concerned."

Watford lost in the play-off semi-final to eventual winners Hull last season after leading the table at one stage and have won just 12 out of 48 league since last November.

Didn't realise they were 4th bottom but seems a bit of a knee jerk reaction.

But it's a shame our chairman couldn't admit that JC's time is at an end and come out with honest comments such as what I've highlighted above.

Watford in Calderwood bid

Published: 03/11/2008

THE EVENING EXPRESS understands that Jimmy Calderwood is close to becoming the new manager of Watford F.C.

Chairman Graham Simpson is eyeing a possible and audacious swoop for Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood, with The Hornets currently laying in 21st position in the Championship table, after a 4-3 defeat by Blackpool.

The Championship side's chief has been impressed by the former Dunfermline manager's track record and has placed him on a shortlist to replace Aidy Boothroyd whom had left the club by mutual consent earlier this week.

"Jimmy's approach of attacking football would be welcomed by fans, and is clearly one we've been keeping tabs on", Simpson said when reached for comment late on Monday.

The popular manager has recently been on the radar of several Championship clubs since reaching the later stages of the UEFA CUP in 2008 through tremendous tactical decisions and a string of spectacular performances. The Dons are currently laying on the fringes of the 3rd spot in the SPL and UEFA qualification.

However, the Aberdeen boss had recently ended speculation about his future by agreeing a new three-year contract. Any approach to the Dons would require a hefty compensation package.

Jimmy Calderwood could not be contacted for comment.

They have a thread up with the possible available managers and one discussing who it should be, seems like the same thing, still never mind.....

That's a helluva list, I got tired just reading it, but what about trying for the new Fergie?

Jimmy Calderwood had a great run in Europe last season, and two cup semi-finals with Aberdeen as well.

Could a bit of Scottish banter be the answer?

Someone fancies Darren Ferguson, so time for a response to that idea.....

I've already posted in the "Available Managers" thread, but the wrong successor to Fergie there. Let's go for the current Aberdeen manager, done relatively well up there with no money. I work with an Aberdeen fan who raves about the turnaround since Jimmy Calderwood took over there, and saw them in two semis and into the last 32 in the UEFA cup last season.

He would also be very cheap!

Thing is, JC will probably apply for the job. Seemingly he goes for most of the vacant positions down south.

What were the last ones he went for?

Agreed!

Does anyone know of a taxi firm willing to drive the 520 miles and 9 hours trip from Aberdeen to Watford?

I'll help chip in!

Yes. British Airways.

The image of Calderwood getting on a plane to Watford isn't quite as satisfying as the image of the fat chump getting into a stinking mini cab for 9 hours for a horrendous journey.

It would be quicker so better all round as would sign new contract and be off our books also think LS meant one way! NO RETURN included :hysterical:
