World Cup 2010

I know it's quite a bit away but still, who do you think will win it?...or who wouldd you like to see win it. After Scotland of course and maybe england etc.

For me i've always been a fan of Brazil in the World Cups since I started watching them really. So i shall be going for them...until of course they have to play Scotland in the final then it will be Scotland to win :)

If Spain can maintain the level of consistency they achieved during the Euros, then they'll not be far off....

However, these days there isn't a lot between the top teams. IMHO, in a long tournament like the world cup, it comes down more mental strength and toughness. I reckon the winner will come from Italy, France, Germany or Spain. The only real competition I can see would be from Brazil, Argentina and England but for all the great players these countries possess, I seriously doubt they could negotiate their way through an entire tournament without a lapse in form.

Argentina are a particularly good example. The football they played in the group stages was several levels above anything anyone else had shown... Their demolition of Serbia, who are not a bad side, was an incredible display attacking football.

...however, the intensity dropped off for 90 mins and they were sent crashing by a much less talented German side.

Do you really reckon France? I just see them as a spent force, and can't see that improving for some time.

Got a mate who's South African and was home in Jo'berg over Christmas. He still doubts very much that the WC will go ahead in SA.

Two of my best mates, brothers from Jo'berg, were also back over Christmas.... I keep asking them the same question, as going from what I hear, it sounds very dubious. They are adament that there has been a lot of hype over nothing - they expect it to run fairly smoothly...

According to them, the British media has a lot to answer for.....

France have still got a team of world beaters....

Gallas, Toulalan, Diarra, Gourcuff, Ribery & Henry are all still top class players and form an oustanding backbone.

Add to that guys like Clichy, Flamini, Ben Arfa, Sagna, Briand, Diaby & Nasri, who all have potential to also reach that level....

However, my main point was the the world cup is, in my opinion, 50% on the pitch & 50% in the minds of the players and staff.... there are such fine margins at the highest level these days, it's all about who can keep their heads. France, Italy and Germany are experts at this, while Spain may just have proved they, at last, have found a backbone. France need to get rid of Domnech though, his arrogance is the reason that France managed to lose twice to a poor Scotland - they won't win if he is manager.

I really believe a European team will triumph outside of Europe in 2010.
