Any (free) online chess sites? Wouldn't mind playing a couple of mates, but the internet world has made me fear genuine social interaction so would be handy doing it over the information freeway.

Was in the chess club at school but never played any cometitions and the chess club only ran for 2 years.

 

Still play ocationally on line for a laugh if not on FM or WOW

started playing chess more seriously recently.

 

always been able to play it to a very basic level but in the last 2-3 weeks decided to pick it up and learn to properly play. computer has hammered me religiously for a while but like football, losses have turned to draws and now im winning more often than anything. granted its only on an easy level but its encouraging and im enjoying it.

 

any good sites folk can recommend to help me learn? or advice would be appreciated.

 

sat trying to learn about opening strategies, mid game strategy, trading pieces, deflections etc and its quite hard to take it all in.

World championship going on just now. Currently all square, 7 games in. Ding Liren is the defending champion, but only because top chesser Magnus Calsen got bored of winning, and withdrew from the competition.

Not been great so far.

I'm back playing after over a year out. Dropped from 1260 ELO to 800 on returning playing. Brutal how much I'd forgotten.

Back up to 1134 now.
