The Old Firm channel....but with the odd token non OF game thrown in for legal reasons only Link to comment

Said it for years. f**k the tv deal and find ways to get supporters paying for what really benefits the club, through the turnstiles. Link to comment

Without TV, interest would die, and the most over-hyped league in the world would justy become even more dominant and all pervasive in this country than it already is. However I think they would be far better concentrating on creating a better product and screwing SKY for more money than trying to go it alone (if that's what they are thinking?). Link to comment
MightyDons
I see Doncaster is now considering a "SPL TV" channel, personally I do not think its viable Its only viable if you can strike a deal to show it on Sky, Virgin and Freeview, with a sensible price. It takes time to build up a following on these type of things so maybe a deal needs to be made with these broadcasters to include it with existing subscriptions. An appropriate online version needs to be created, with high quality broadcast of all matches on a pay as you watch basis. If you can't make it to the game, then you can watch it online Link to comment
vanderark14
Its a great idea and it will help stop companies under bidding for the rights. they must have something to go to the bargaining table with. It can't exactly be any worse than the coverage sky give the SPL right now. If they go with their own channel then I'd subscribe to it. Link to comment

Old Wing Stand
Personally wouldn't pay to watch the OF against the like of Hamilton v St Johnstone and I think it would end up a flop like Setanta Link to comment

I was encouraged by it. Link to comment
fatshaft
Who's interest would die?The Scottish public's in the SPL, as it has already done since we wnet to Setanta, and lost proper highlights at the weeknd. Now all you hear is Man Utd this, Arsenal that, and Liverpool the next thing. Link to comment

vanderark14
I agree, when the product is better then it'll become more marketable and then SPL TV may be more viable in the future. Not saying piggybacking off Sky and ESPN's EPL subscribers is ideal (although it does offer some degree of stability), but SPLTV going ahead and flopping would simply finish of some clubs. why would it flop? the idea is there to bargain to sky with setanta was successful in this country and that was basically what SPL TV would have been had the OF not f**ked everyone off. vanderark14
Setanta offered a deal for the EPL their viewing figures couldn't sustain and so had to rip up a deal SPL clubs had already budgeted for. Not a viable model at all, total pie in the sky. Sky or ESPN aren't going to go bust anytime soon, I'm not saying don't look at SPL TV but perhaps what Sky and ESPN are offering is a decent going rate for the product on offer, given every man and his dog says the SPL is beyond sh*te? thats not my point, if setanta had just left england alone then the scottish model they had would have been fine,it was making money. If the only option to watch scottish fitba is on SPL tv then I'd be confident it would make money, even if it was just from the OF support alone. we need options more than just sky as they have the SPL over a barrell right now. Now all you hear is Man Utd this, Arsenal that, and Liverpool the next thing.Greed has killed football and the Scottish publics interest in it died a long time ago. No tv deal will mend it. The only thing that can revive it from it's deep slumber is the football fan.The only option in my view is to make a matchday an attractive and affordable spectacle to actually attend. Get the kids involved in the whole experience. I remember growing up, when there was very little football on tv, the mystique of it all made me want to be there. And the product on offer was actually quite good at times too. But if people are ok to swap that for the odd Kilmarnock v Hamilton with a 10-45 kick off on a Friday morning then all's good. And Sportscene on a Saturday night would be welcome Link to comment
DieHardDandy
I'm sick of tv deals that result in fans paying for multiple subscriptions. As a non-Aberdeen based Dandy I actually saw the most Dons games through RedTv when I lived in Hong Kong. Now in London I get ripped off to see the odd Dons game every few months and more often than not I miss games because stupid tv channels don't want to give me a Dons game for my money - it's always bloody old firm crap. I don't think it's fair. Give me a Dons channel and f**k the rest of them! Link to comment
