Leightons_Missing_Teeth Posted January 27, 2011 Share Posted January 27, 2011 From the 2012/13 season onwards the Top 6 nations in UEFA rankings will be given automatic slots in the Europa League group stages meaning even slimmer chance for the small teams and teams in lesser leagues to get a fair crack at european tournaments. robbo Posted January 28, 2011 Share Posted January 28, 2011 i hate all major competitions nowadays. geared 100% towards getting the bigger clubs though. not impossible, but well be very very luck to ever again see a day when a club the size of aberdeen can topple european giants. same goes for internationals. Indeed, for us or a another team like us to make it to the europa group stage would be a big achievment. Like you say its all about money and big teams. Link to comment

That'll put a stop to reserve teams being fielded by Aston Villa and the like.If by 'only change', you mean change just about everything about it, then yes you are right. Get rid of seedingGet rid of group stages - bring back straight home and away knock outGet rid of the doggies chance, lose in the champions+a-few-places-below-that-league and you get a second go in the UEFA cupGet rid of both 'leagues' and bring back the European cup, CWC and UEFA cup. Clubs cry it's all about money, but really it's not, because every time there's an extra penny earned, the players find a way to squeeze that money back to them. If football clubs really were businesses and in it for profit, then the continual drive to concentrate the money more and more in the big clubs pockets would be understandable, but when Man Utd, Chelsea, Real Madrid & Barca cannot make a penny between them, it's pretty clear there is no need for the continual drive to earn that extra penny.
