And just wait for the inevitable multiple call offs due to a big red spot and hair cut appointements!!!!

I'll guess the now, that there will be 8 call offs from that squad

Would have thought Goodwillie would have been called up way before Maguire. Especially with harry potter in charge.

Don't think Levein got on with Goodwillie while he was at united. I remember him saying, a couple of years ago, that his head was full of mince and that he needed to sort out his attitude. This whole rape business probably didn't help his case.

Hanley is an interesting one. The Blackburn manager has been raving about him lately - apparently he's very similar in style to Colin Hendry.

How often have Bannan and Hanley played lately?

Dorrans has been out injured too hasn't he?

Bannan & Hanley feature regularly in the 1st team or off the bench for Villa and Blackburn respectivly.

Wilson does neither.

But there is no denying that Wilson does have talent.

Hanley is very well thought of. Great prospect.

Injured players get called up all the time. He'll be assessed and probably sent back to WBA

If as my source said he's an old fashioned kick it and head it centre half then in future he could form a good partnership with Wilson. Wilson is decent at playing the ball out from the back.

I can't find the quote, but this pretty much exactly what Steve Kean , or someone else, said, if I remember correctly. That these two will be the Scotland partnership for the next 10 years.

Don't know much about Hanley myself - never seen him play.

Hanley has suddenly been given a chance and has played seven games. Is that cause for a call up ahead of Wilson?

Wilson deserves to be there because he is a tremendous prospect and has Champions League, UEFA Cup, International and SPL experience.

I have no doubt Wilson would be getting games at Blackburn if he played there. It just so happens that Liverpool are struggling and it would be a big gamble to throw him in to a very ropey defence.

The few times I've seen Bannan lately he's been benched or came on later in to the game.

All three should be given a chance in games like this as far as I'm concerned.

Don't understand why he's the only one you're singling out Oddjob. He played very well the last time, although it was only against the Faroes so he deserves a crack at better opposition.

I'm sure he was also signed on Dalglish's recommendation so I presume he'll get a chance soon enough.

I just can't see how a player not playing for his club can be sharp and match fit enough for international games, no matter how they have played previously.

How is an International game any different from playing first team football other than the fact it's for your country and not your club?

If he was called up to play for Liverpool against Chelsea at the weekend he'd manage having played reserve team football. I'm sure he'd cope against N Ireland.

We need to start playing these youngsters in International friendlies (which this still is) to get them used to the set up and team mates.

I didn't just single him out, also mentioned Gary Caldwell and McCuntlloch. Wilson will be a good defender, he just needs games. Fair enough i don't know anything about the guy Hanley either so should have mentioned him too.

Glad Snodders has been given a call-up, and before time either. Should have been called up for our qualifiers last year imo. On paper it's a decent enough squad but can they do the business? I hope so, and i don't just mean for this game, hopefully these guys will be part of our qualifying squad later in the year.

With players like Wilson, Hanley, Dorrans, Adam, Bannan and Morrison starting to come through, there is a little more hope for the future I feel.

Goalkeeper and midfield are our obvious strengths and the defence looks like it'll become stronger with time... however the really worry is upfront. Miller is not good enough... and after that you don't see an awful lot. We don't really have any good, young goalscorers coming through.

Call offs:

Three players have pulled out of Craig Levein's Scotland squad to play against Northern Ireland in Dublin this week.

Rangers midfielder Lee McCulloch could require surgery to remedy a knee problem caused by a cyst.

Manchester United's Darren Fletcher and West Brom's Graham Dorrans are also out, and Wigan defender Gary Caldwell is doubtful.

Caldwell's younger brother Steven, and James McArthur, also of Wigan, have been called up as replacements.

Scotland play Northern Ireland on Wednesday night in the first of three Nations Cup matches, with Wales and the Republic of Ireland opposition later in the year.

Was hoping to see Fletcher and charlie Adam in the middle, shame he's pulled out, fingers crossed there aren't a flood of other call offs :crossfingers:

Probably wouldn't class myself as a Scotland fan these days, all I really want from these games if for Maguire and McArdle to come back without an injury.

Pissed off with Levein and our team at times - especially with some of the dodgy withdrawals - but i'll never turn my back on my country, i just can't do it regardless of embarassing results and the like.

Just don't get excited about the games anymore, not really up for cheering on charlatans like McGregor, Weir, McCulloch and that wee tink Naismith especially since I'd be calling them every name under the sun in different circumstances.

I freely admit I'd be more interested in the whole thing if we made a major finals (or came close as in 2007) but I just simply can't muster up the enthusiasm these days, even at the Dons lowest ebb I still cared.

I get what you're saying Bri, and living down there it's understandable. I'm certainly not having a go at you or anyone who has that opinion, just stating that i can't do that. You're right enough in regards to the likes of McCulloch etc utter scumbags but i suppose 'The Crab' is an example of a guy i hated pretty much all year round but as soon as he had the dark blue on he was 'our captain' and i supported him and each of our boys.

thats just football, club and country are separate and its easy for me anyway to put differences to one side when Scotland play. I may not like all of the players but its Scotland I support not the players. Its just the same with the dons, I may not like who's picked but they get full support come match day.
