Pretty sure he's involved in the death but I cannot see how he can now be convicted again on a retrial with the main damning evidence believed to have been fabricated. Link to comment

That's why, amidst the smoke and mirrors of this long, drawn out legal saga, he has been a free man for a substantial portion of it. And I think the police 'incompetence' much commented on, was in fact a protection of one of their own, until such time as the calls for his head became too loud to ignore.
