HH_is_back
I have just had a text from my mate who informed me that our beloved new leader Mr Brown said something along the lines of Mackie and Vernon will be the starting partnership this season on Northsound. Please tell me that he's on the wind up because of my hatred of all things Mackie. Someone please confirm that this is not the case? If this is true I wont be near a Dons game this season. Mackie was finished 6 years ago. Mince, mince, mince. Plain and simple not good enough and don't give me this effort arguement as he is simply not a good enough footballer to even play at Scottish first division level. Link to comment

Can't remember anything about saying thise 2 will start but he said he's happy enough with the strikers we have (Mackie Magennis Vernon Paton). Link to comment
paulkaneatemyhamster
If true a signal of intent from afc. Surely brown wouldn't be that silly. Mackie is what he is, and that's a bottom 6 spl forward That sadly is the level we are at. If we are to progress as a club committed but limited players like mackie are not going to help us. My own view is he should be moved on, on a free if required. Link to comment

I think this pairing will score more than our pairing of last season. Link to comment
Dandyesque
Mackie gets a hard press. He won the game at McDiarmid Park, got injured and now he's persona non grata? He's always had more fight in him than the rest put together and if our newest (old headed) manager fancies using him, that's fine by me. He'll never be a prolific scorer but given his attitude and work ethic, deserves the chance to fit in with a new strike partner under new management. It's creating chances and particularly shutting the back door that's our bigger concern. I agree. I also remember in Calderwood's last season, he only used Mackie as a striker away from home. He never scored at Pittodrie that season, but still managed to get half a dozen away goals - some of which were cracking strikes. If we have a half decent team next season and Mackie plays up front regularly (in a front 2) then I think he'd manage at least as many goals as Maguire - and a few assists to Vernon as well. He is a much better player than many strikers we have signed to replace him over the years. Link to comment
HH_is_back
He is pish. No control, no composure, no pace anymore. Get shot of. Link to comment
Jazzer_Bett
I also remember in Calderwood's last season, he only used Mackie as a striker away from home This is because Mackie's only use was chasing balls over the top into corners - which was previous hingmys main game system. Fell down when Dazzler actually got through 1 on 1......... On the odd occassion he flukes it though, it looks spectacular - I recall the volley at Herts.... Link to comment
tup
Mackie's a battler, good squad player, gets wired in, loves the Dons, dirty b*stard at times. What's not to like? Link to comment

Fact that he is pish and not even close to the standard of player we should have on the books if we are to progress as a team. Link to comment
HH_is_back
He's pish. He's not good enough, he was finished and should have been punted for good seasons ago. He will take Aberdeen backwards, yes further backwards because Maguire at least had skill to beat players. Mackie is an abortion and I cant believe we're starting a season with him. Tup this is a clear indication too me how mush sh*te you have spouted over funds being available to Brown and Knox. Lets face facts Mackie is no where near SPL standard. Link to comment

He's always put a shift in. He has his poor games, so does everybody, he gets it in the neck more often though. What is 'SPL standard' exactly? So Maguire leaves, the guns turn on Mackie. As for your second paragraph, away and f**k yersel, you've no idea who will line up for us in August and yet feel the need to remonstrate with me based on an unknown. Link to comment
Tord31
I believe we'll sign at least one striker this summer so any talk by Brown at the moment is just that, talk. However going by Mackie's career thus far it is likely he'll bag 4 or 5 goals by september and get a new deal and then be pish for another two years..... Link to comment

HH_is_back
I'm certainly not doom mongering about anything, I was merely asking for clarification about what I've been informed Mr Brown said on the radio this morning. That my friend is fact not fiction. Now please clarify again about you spouting nonsense about funds being made available, vast sums I think you hinted or said. Would you like me to dig out your original quaote to refresh you? You stated funds would be made available, not I. I'm questioning that due to the FACT that Brown is on the radio saying Mackie will be Vernon's partner. Any team with funds would not be starting with Darren Mackie as a main striker. So where is your evidence of this magical pot of gold that Brown is being given???? Link to comment

HH_is_back
Significant investment where? One midfielder signed on after a loan spell for feck all. A defender who was also out of contract and we have John Collins 16 year old nephew about to sign. We require full backs times two. Another central defender, at least one wide player, a central midfielder and a striker. We couldn't afford Gomis because of wages. Where is this significant investment that is currently happening? I'll reserve judgment until I see the investment. Link to comment
paulkaneatemyhamster
Significant funds Would indicate more than just the freed up wages of departing players. Being honest I don't see any extra funds for brown to play with so we must hope he can get the best players in within our budget and get the remaining players playing better. Link to comment
stirlingsheep
From what I heard/read from somewhere was that Brown indicated that he was happy enough with the strikers we had, but wouldn't mind adding one more to who is there. Link to comment

If he is a regular next season, bottom 6 beckons again Link to comment
Mouse
I say give him one season under Brown. If he is still pish, get rid. Can understand why many on here don't want to give him another chance though. I think we have a competent goalscorer in Vernon, but a club like Aberdeen should be looking at having two if we are to have any ambition Link to comment

tup
I'm certain Darren will be delighted to read that he's once again got the full support and unstinting backing of the ever enthusiastic Dons core support. He's going to give that extra few percent after reading this, and probably cannot wait to don the boots and race out in front of a third full Pittodrie in front of such a loyal and realistic home crowd. I know if I were in his shoes I'd be absolutely ecstatic to run out in front of such a hallowed crowd, and would be giving it my utmost to please such decent, warm and generous human beings. I'm also sure he's been pining for scapegoat status, having passed that particular baton to Maguire for last season, there's only room for one much-maligned forward here he must have thought, let's get that useless c**t out the door and I'll show the faithful what useless really means. I'm bowled over by the enthusiasm here recently. Any suggestion of hope is met with such rapturous approval, it's about time we got the team our optimism deserves to be honest, come awa AFC, we are all overdosing on sheer unbridled joy here. What a club we have, serious fans, constructively critical. and always seeking that angle of hope in a sea of uncertainty. How can we fail with such support, I ask you? Link to comment
