Copa America 2011 Argentina

Recommended Posts

The 43rd Copa America starts in Argentina on 1st July and runs until 24th July.

12 team will participate, the 10 regular South American nations and Costa Rica and Mexico as guests. Japan were due to participate but withdrew after the Tsunami earlier this year.

The Copa America used to be called the South American Championship and has run since 1916, making it one of the oldest international football competition in the world.

Uruguay and Argentina have both won the competition 14 times, with Brazil in third place with 8 wins.

Paraguay and Peru have both been Champions twice and Colombia and Bolivia have both won the competition once each.

Looking forward to this to get my football fix during the summer break. I really enjoyed it last time and I believe Sky are showing it again. Unfortunately a lot of the games are on at unsociable hours.

I'm sure Gus Poyet and Ossie Ardiles will be back in the studio with their halftime pearls of wisdom :wtf::banghead:

You beauty! Model Riquelme vows to strip if Paraguay win the Copa America

Paraguayan beauty Larissa Riquelme has promised to strip naked if the team win the Copa America.

'If Paraguay win the Copa America then I shall pose nude on the pitch,' the 26-year-old said, tantilisingly adding: 'I think we'll do well at the Copa.'

The South American model made similar claims at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, but to no avail with her nation being dumped out by eventual winners Spain in the quarter-finals.

This time, Riquelme will be hoping that Gerrardo Martino's side can repeat their 1999 triumph when they beat Brazil 3-0 on home soil.

Paraguay are in Group B alongside Brazil, Venezuela and Ecuador, against whom they notched a 0-0 draw in their opening match.

Current champions Brazil were held to a goalless draw with Venezuela and will face Riquelme's beloved side next Saturday.

And here's a little taster of what to expect (hopefully) ;)

Brazil Paraguay has been the best game thus far, the rest of the games have been sh*te.

Yeah but these tournaments are always a bit cagey to start with, teams are more afraid of losing. Hopefully should get going now as it's essentially now into knock-out games.

Tonight, Bolivia need to beat Columbia by a few goals to stand a chance of qualifying. Bizarrely though the last games in each group are not being played at the same time.

Watching this sh*t on the big screen just now, Colombia 2-nil up against Bolivia yaaaaaaaaaas!

Booooo!

Bolivia look like they will be the first team to be knocked out. They deserve it really, can't score and prone to f**k-ups at the back.

Argentina can't win their group now.

Bit of a shock scoreline. A couple of howlers in extra time from the Columbian keeper for the goals, and Columbia missed a pen in normal time.
